Fly Away Ears!

I have been trying for a year to get the hair on my Bailey's ears to be long and sleek.  The hair at the top of her ears never seems to grow longer.  I keep trimming the bottom hoping to get that "one length look" but it is frustrating!  I swear the hair on the middle and top of her ears never grows.... resulting in puffy looking ears.  She has very soft curly hair on her ears and it almost floats in the air.  Am I fighting a losing battle?

She looks just right to me. The one length ear is associated more with a poodle or spaniel do. Not so much for a doodle. I always layer the ears.

I think you are fighting a losing battle. ;-) Darwin's ears are super curly as well, and never do the smooth same length thing. She is adorable, I think her ears look perfect!

Thanks!  She is a sweetie and I love her soft ears.  Just thought we would try a new "hair-do" if possible...lol!  Guess we stick with the layered look!

The long flowy look might be hard to do with the curly hair. You could try trimming the top shorter like the lower or middle part. That way it will be all one length and take some of the poofy look away. Either way they do look nice and even in the picture.

Thanks Bob!  I will try a bit of trimming......we have nothing to lose at this point.  I could shave them down and start all over.....yikes!   Wonder how long it would take to grow back!  LOL  

  (My Bedlington terrier's ears were so much easier to groom!)

Oscar has shorter hairs at the top of his ears, too, that never seems to grow. Lucy, on the other hand, can easily sport that full, one-length look. Or at least she use to before the addition of Oscar last year... he keeps her ear hair thinned by all the tugging and biting on her ears. I'm afraid she'll never have that full one-length look again!

I never thought of that!  Maybe it is all the playing Bailey has been doing with my friends puppy.  The pup does bite and pull her ears all the time.  Hmmm.   Oh well....play time is far more important than long ears!  :)

Daphne does that to my Lucy too! Bites her ears and pulls her across the floor. I don't know how she puts up with it! Lucy has the beautiful long retriever ears, Daphne's are shorter. She is an F1b so more Poodly ears. I think that what Bailey has is what she has. Kind of like my hair, I have tried my entire life to get thicker longer hair and it just doesnt happen. Bailey is just adorable the way she is!

Thanks, Lori!  I think Bailey is adorable too.....but of course I am prejudice!  Your girls are gorgeous!  Lucy really does have those beautiful long ears I am thinking about....and little Daphne could be Bailey's sister.....cute, cute, cute!
