Is anyone using Nexgard, oral flea and tick preventative? Opinions anyone?

Our Vet recommended Nexgard for fleas. It's made by the makers of Front.ine, but is a beef flavored pill. Same coverage for fleas and ticks, for 30 days. Wanting to try as the topical presents a problem in the summer with dogs swimming several times a day. Anyone have and insight into this new product?

Sorry to hear this.

Thanks F.

About the ear problem. One of my doodles had an infected ear for about 6 months. We would treat it and as soon as we stopped it would come back. Then a friend suggested that I try the K9 ear solution. You can read the reviews on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_15?url=search-alias%3Daps&...). So many people having the same problem. I used it for 1 week and that was the end of my girls ear problem. My step daughter has a austrailian shepard/poodle and she had a very bad problem for months. Both of her ears were red and inflamed with dark brown goo. She used it for a couple weeks and has not had a problem since. My doods are back to swimming 4 x a day and just recently 2 had itchy smelly ears. I used it for a couple days and again it worked. Some people put it in 1x after a bath as maintenance solution. Amazing stuff, not expensive, give it a try and let us know if it works for Bailey.

Thanks Janice.  I will look into it.

I gave mine a one-time dose of it yesterday because we are going to be doing some camping here in the next month and I didn't want her attracting any ticks. That was what the vet recommended I do.

How did you get a one-time dose? My vet said she could only sell it in a 6-pack.

For what it's worth, I called the manufacturer of Nexgard and asked if it worked on deer ticks, because it only says dog ticks on the sample I got from my vet, and the rep said that it does kill black legged deer ticks (which we have in abundance here), so I'm going to give it a try. Lola's silky thick hair is just so thick I feel I never get the Frontline on right.

My vet told me the same thing.  We are using it and I found a dead deer tick on Bailey so it does work!  It is so nice not having to put Frontline Plus on her!

Don't you wonder what super powers those deer ticks have that make them so hard to kill??  :>)

My experience with topicals is that K9 Advantix works far better than Frontline -- at least, where we live and for my dogs. Does anyone know if the company that makes K9 Advantix has (or is working on) an oral alternative?

Good question, sorry I don't know. Would you be willing to give the Nexgard a try? We are on our 2 nd month, no issues with either dog so far. But I don't really expect any.

My vet didn't say anything either, but she doesn't carry Advantix because she thinks it's too strong. I have friends in heavy tick ares who swear by it though.

My vet recommended it at Boca's recent visit.  After coming here to read through this discussion...I may just have to switch!
