Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Thanks everyone for the name suggestions. We went down there thinking if we brought golden boy back he would either be called Nugget or Nero. But once we got there and saw him and got to know him we realized neither of those names seemed to fit him. First, he is pretty submissive (although I am not sure how much of that is just he doesn't seem to have had a chance to thrive) and second he is mostly white/cream with gold coarser hair lightly sprinkled throughout. We thought he looked like a coconut macaroon with bits of toasted coconut on top. And thus, the name was born. It doesn't sound like the other names and we shorten it to Mac for most things. The funny thing is on the way home my son (6 years old) said "Mom and Dad, we have the sandwich club: PB&J and a Big Mac!" LOL! So we are now the doodle sandwich club I guess. :)
So for the journey. It was hard. We took Brisby because he is our Alpha. It was 4 hours down and 4 hours back and we did it all in one day. The kids (Alex (6), Grace (9)) and the dogs did amazing. It was a LONG day.
When we got there it was not the conditions I would expect for a rescue. Supposedly, the poodle rescue of the southwest and the El Paso Golden Retriever rescue was sponsoring and fostering this guy. I was not thrilled with the area. Lots of flies, poop, and Mac was kept in a kennel outside. He has licked his hair on his bottom so much now it is a red/rose color as well as his elbow area. I wanted out of there. It was awful! We will have to look into that. Brisby and Mac met and it seemed fine. Mac is very submissive and Brisby was dominate but benevolently. The poodle lady kept saying Brisby was way to dominate but he wasn't. I know dogs. She seemed like and odd person. By the end they were playing although there were some signs of stress. It cant be an easy process for the dogs.
On the way home we had Mac sit in the back seats with Alex. He snuggled up next to Alex for dear life. Brisby was in the middle seat with my daughter Grace. THey seemed to do fine. Mac seems very attached to Alex, which is funny but Alex did a great job of staying calm, reassuring Mac but not touching him too much.
After we got back home we took Mac and Brisby to an enclosed park, and Chad and ALex went to get Pickles and Jake. We had them meet there on neutral ground and everyone did great. After an hour we brought them all home.
Mac does well with potty time, sleeps in his crate, etc. He hasn't eaten for us yet. I don't think he understand we have designated eating times. Please suggestions if you have any on eating. I don't want him to starve but he may just be really stressed out. Oh and the rescue was feeding him Kirkland brand food which they gave me a big bag of as a "thank you". Ummmm ok. We feed Acana here people!
Anyway, we are doing ok. Ill keep you updated and have questions. He is a sweet boy but my guess is he is a 4-5 year old. Im getting him an insurance plan today and then will have questions for you all. I think we were lied to about his background and we need to figure out how to get him healthy. I am concerned about the hips but it could be a knee/patella issue. We will see. He loves our boys though so he is here to stay.
HEre are a few pictures of the journey home and Mac at our place with his new brothers. Enjoy and thanks for the help and support!
Im Grateful to people like you that help rescue doodles properly. Thank You. Its heartbreaking to see all of these guys and the conditions the live or have lived in.
Love,
Jenn

So happy for Big Mac and for your whole family! How cool is your Sandwich Club...Love it!!!
Thank you for all you have done for your guys...especially Jake and Mac! You have a home so full of love!
Congratulations Mac on your new home and family...lucky guy!!
What a great story, Jenn! Great pictures, thanks for sharing. You guys are angels for rescuing Mac (love the name)! It looks like your gang will do great together. Hope Mac checks out okay with his hip/knee issues.
wow--he is gorgeous! Way to go!! Good luck with the pack!
Wow Jenn, you and your family are amazing for giving this beautiful boy a new life! I'm so glad they all get along. Thanks to you and your family!
Mac looks like he just fits in fine with the rest of the crew. I wouldn't worry about the eating yet. He is in his adjustment period. Just give him his own defined area and when he is hungry he will start eating. Put his food out and if he doesn't eat remove it. Don't let the other dogs eat his food. He will come around. Nice group of doodles you have!
Just got back in town and am catching up on all the excitement at your home! Mac is a handsome doodle. Thanks Jenn for giving him his forever home. It looks like he is a very good match for your family. BTW - you have beautiful children.
Very cute! I love the name!
Macaroon! Big Mac!! Fantastic name! He is gorgeous, and Jenn, you and your family are incredible for giving this sweet boy a new home and, what I'm sure will be, a wonderful life. Thank you all for giving him a family (and looks like he fits right in with your pack!) The pictures of Mac and your son are SO precious!
Looking forward to hearing the adventures of the new doodle sandwich club! :)
What a great looking group of Doodles. Mac will settle in. He has to be scared and confused now. I bet within a month his personality will shine through. Hope everything continues to go well. Love the name, too.
He is a beautiful doodle and your son is a darling. It is so great that you were able to get him out of there. he will be one happy doodle.
I just love this story! These pictures are such an amazing contrast to the ones that you posted of Mac when he was relinquished and in the hands of the rescue organizations. He looks so happy with your son, and now he will have a happy life. I wish that we lived closer, as I would really like to meet you and your new new blond big Mac. What a lucky fellow he is :o)
