Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I am contemplating getting a Doodle, but wanting more info on the Toy-sized ones. Please let me
know how much your full grown Toy Doodle weighs. Also do the Toys look like Poodles and
have short legs? I have seen lots of pictures of the Mini, Medium and Standard, but can't say
I have ever seen a Toy in the neighbirhood or in pictures. Thanks for sharing your experience and
pictures of your furbaby! :)

If you really want a 'toy' sized dog, I would not get a doodle.  You are not getting a big dog personality in a tiny dog - just doesn't happen.  IMO doodles are not meant to be toy sized and breeding a standard retriever with a teeny tiny poodle in hopes of a tiny dog is asking for orthopedic problems.  This is just my opinion, however.  Have you thought of a Havanese?  These are pretty cool little dogs.

Waiting to hear from Toy Doodle owners! Thanks!

Not sure what your definition of toy doodle is,  but I have a small medium 20 lb Multigeneration Australian Labradoodle.  To me...toy is anything under 10 lbs and I would DEFINITELY agree with what Nancy, Ned and Clancy said.

How do you define a toy? I have seen great little doodles that are 20 pounds and I do know of someone who has used a toy poodle in her breeding program and has gotten some smaller than than 20 pounds--but it took several generations of breeding the smaller labradoodles to the toy poodles-- I agree with Nancy--making a doodle that small does not seem like you have a lab cross--the dog is much smaller and may have a totally different personality! Also some might have short legs but they could also be in proportion to their size--no rules about that.

I have a labradoodle that is a cross of a mini-poodle and a lab--she has the shorter legs of a mini and the large rib cage of a lab--but is very cute and smart. She is less laid back than some labs, but not hyper at all--but she weighs 35 pounds since she has a big body...she is in the front of this picture--not a toy, but small enough for me. So, in short, I agree with the others--go for a purebred toy that has a more predictable outcome and a proportioned body.

There are probably less than a handful (if that) owners of toy labradoodles/goldendoodles on this site, so you may not get any responses.  I agree with the above posters.  Although they would be cute, I don't see the purpose of breeding a labrador mix to a tiny size when there are several toy breeds that would look similar and would be predictable in terms of size, coat and personality.  And the point made (elsewhere) about finding a reputable breeder is not a minor point.  There are limited quality breeders of doodles in general.  When you limit the pool of breeders to a very very specific type of doodle (with even less history behind it), it becomes even less likely to find a reputable breeder.  None of us are trying to be a "downer," we're just trying to look out for you and the interests of the dogs being bred in this toy size.  I mean we are doodle owners (and dog lovers), after all, we're not pure breed purists just being snobby.

Amen, Adina.

The breeder of my Goldendoodles breeds toy sized ones. PM me for information.

I agree with the previous posters but I know that is not what you asked :-)

My breeder breeds miniature f1b goldendoodles.  (I have standards but I've had a relationship with them for years.)  They are careful to use parent dogs who are well built and similarly sized for the minis, thus avoiding the awkward conformation of many minis. The mom is a  22 lb f1 goldendoodles and the dad is a 27 lb poodle, the puppies average 20 lbs as adults.  Each litter has 1 or 2 pups which is much smaller.  My cousin has a mini from them who is only 13 lbs!  This is because the poodle sire is from a line of miniature poodles, he was the largest of the litter.

My breeder does not have any pups, but you may want to look at miniature breeders and ask what the size range is.  Perhaps you will find some "mini" minis :-)

Jennifer, i am interested in 20 pound Doodle. Would you please PM me your breeder name and web page. We are already "friends". Please. Thank you!
