The first time Sidiqi became aware of something interesting on the big screen was when one of those caveman commercials came on. He barked furiously at the "monster" for 30 seconds and then, when the commercial ended, he went back to chewing on his rawhide. Now he gets really excited whenever he sees a dog on the screen. (The dancing gecko gets a good reaction, too.) Sometimes he runs toward the TV, then races to the window on the same wall, but he never seems to catch the TV characters outside in our yard. Hmm...

Ours sure is. He HATES to see any animal, even a cartoon animal, on the TV. He will bark his fool head off...guess he is protecting us from the mean old TV.
My Goldendoodle, Holly, is only interested in the TV when there are other animals on the screen. She will bark at them and then look behind the set to see wher the animal is. Recently, here was a caribou on a wildlife show advancing towards the camera. Holly began retreating and barking at the animal as she moved backwards away from the TV.
I finally snapped a pic of Barney watching golf. He definitely loves golf, I think it's the bright colours and people moving on the green background. I'm attaching the pic.

This is all too funny! I can't watch TV at night with Scampy because he is ALWAYS barking at people walking...I think he thinks it's a window! he also barks at the reflection of me sitting on the couch in the window...maybe he thinks it's someone on a couch in the front yard?!?!?? and when I tell him to shush he just keeps letting out those quiet little woofs under his breath! he's always making me laugh
I have been reading a lot about dogs vision. It seems that most dogs can not see the TV pictures. It has to do with the scan rate of the screen. They see the tv screen like it needs to be adjusted.
From my additional reading it does appear that newer technology TV's do have higher scan rates and different ways of creating the image that may be easier for dogs to see.
My Mocha used to pay attention to the TV, but not too much anymore....I guess as with most things...she got used to it?? I was very cute though when she did. We would have to stop her from jumping up on the TV when she saw a dog.
I love this discussion because Brooksy has watched the TV since day one. I love it. He will just randomly look up and watch for a few minutes, its usually during sporting events...(which my husband loves, of course). He has never barked, he'll just calmly watch along with Mom & Dad!
Yes! Nouba enjoys watching the dogs on "Dog Whisperer" and all kinds of sporting events where "little people" run around all over the TV screen. She also watches dog shows. The longest she's stared at the TV was about 3 minutes!! :)
Our doodle Penny watches... and I mean WATCHES... TV every night with us. She has growled at alligators on the Discovery Channel and run up to the screen (we have a BIG one!) during dog shows. If we're watching a movie and a doorbell rings, she thinks it's our door and starts barking. Her favorite show is "Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (I think she has a crush on him), and her least favorite movie of all time was the most recent "Superman" movie - she really knew that Kevin Spacey was the bad guy - barked like crazy at him. :-)
My goldedoodle watches TV. She also loves to watch you tube videos of dogs. (just glad she can't work the remote control).
