I was petting Duncan today and for some reason I noticed a hard bump on the top of his head (kinda left of center). I have no idea if this was always there or not. It's kind of weird but I always stroke his ears and snout and under his chin etc. but i don't usually pat the top of his head. I wonder if that is normal. He is a clumsy puppy and bumps into things but this bump is not soft it is hard. It might just be his skull that i'm feeling. I have no idea what it should feel like. If anyone wants to pat their pup on the head and let me know if you feel any bumps that would be helpful:)
Lilly is 18 months old and she has a big lump , (if you feel on top of her head between her ears) I think its her skull bone. As she got older it will became more prominent.

Someone told me that a few years ago too :) This lady was petting Buddy and said what a smart boy he probably was because his bump was so big LOL I really thought she was crazy at the time, but I have heard other people say it too, and he IS smart......
I had a litter of F1Bs this year(14pups) and one pup, who was very different from the rest, he had very course hair and shed worse than any dog I have ever seen had a bump that was very large on his head. I did notice that his sire(standard poodle) had a bump on his head also, just not as large. Chip, thats what we called him was not a very good specimen of a labradoodle only because of his looks and coat type, but he had the best temperment of all of the litter.
i have actually read about this bump and it has been said in Goldens that it is an undesirable trait. That goldens with this type of skull shape are more prone to brain damage or mental disorder. Yet is was intentionally bred into the breed as SOME breeders liked the shape of the skull and the head with the bump. Our Neely doesn't have a large one at all judt the regular prominance of the conection there. But that was something I was looking for when choosing him as i had read it before we started to look around. Unless your dog goes whacky I don't think it likely matters in the least
