Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello Doodle Lovers,

This following questionnaire is a vital piece of market research for myself and would really appreciate participation. The topic is about a business that would offer pet massage therapy, boarding, doggy day care, and possibly grooming for your dogs. Please keep an open mind with this. Even if you would have no desire using any of these services your input will be of most help.

  1. Please rate in order of most important to least important when dealing with a service for your dog?
    • Low price
    • Quality of service
    • Close to home
    • Business-consumer relationship

  1. If business is out of city, would you still use this service? (eg. You live in the city or and the business operates in the suburbs, or vice versa)

  • Yes
  • No

  1. If you answered yes, how far will you be willing to travel? (approx distance in km’s)

  1. Whether you answered yes or no, would you be willing to pay for a pick up service?

  1. On a scale of 1-10, 1 being NOT important and 10 being VERY important, is a big yard for these services (most importantly boarding) important?

  1. On a scale of 1-10, 1 being NOT close, 10 being VERY close,  how close should this service be to parks, beaches, and walking trails.

  1. Please feel free to add additional comments or information pertaining to what you would/would not like regarding these services.

Thanks very much for all your input!

I would like to send you a personal message - if you like friend me and we can talk behind the scenes....I have a lot of opinion to share about this subject and I use two different types of daycare and at least once a week.
1. Quality of Service, Close to Home, Price, Relationship
2. Yes, I drive to get to services now
3. I'd drive 15- 20 miles
4. No
5. 3
6. 0 If I am boarding my pet with you I would not want him removed from the boarding property
1 - Quality of service, business consumer relationship, close to home, price
2 - yes
3 - up to 30 miles
4 - no
5 - 7
6 -0

I don't think I would be comfortable with the dog being removed from the original premises while he was being boarded or at daycare. That introduces a whole set of worries for me. That is why I put 0.

7. Please feel free to add additional comments or information pertaining to what you would/would not like regarding these services. There aren't very many facilities I have found that have the facility staffed overnight. I will not leave my Dog at these places.

#4 Price (I go to one of the more expensive daycares and would NOT switch based on price)

2. Maybe - if on the way to my work....
3. 10 miles
4. Yes
5. 4 (as long as there is a yard available, inside area is important too)
6. 0 (I don't want Peri leaving the daycare premises)

Biggest things I like about daycare: staff knows and loves Peri, Peri gets excited about going, they have kiddie pools in the summer, they do an extensive behavioral analysis on all dogs, it is 1 mile from my office, WEBCAM
BTW Peri does daycare at least once a week and will be boarded there during Thanksgiving for a week. We couldn't live without daycare!
1. Quality 2. yes 3. 15 mi 4. no 5. #9 6. #1 7. The most important thing to me is that my dog is not confined in a little cage all day. The place should be clean and bright, not in someone's basement with no windows. The nicest one I saw had light and lots of room and a door where the dog could go outside during the day. They even had doggy TV! (cost extra though) But, alas, they closed--not sure why.
1. Quality of service, Business consumer relationship, low price, close to home
2. Yes
3. 15 miles
4. Yes
5. Big yard not important at all...a Family environment regardless of whether they have a yard. If no yard a safe place for the dog to run and play close by is a must though. My "yard" is a half a block from where I live :)
6. 5 - it should be close enough that the dogs are going to get to go. Its ok if they have to ride in the car to get there.

For me, the only place I will leave my dog when I go away is somewhere that is a similar setting to my home. For example a dog sitting service I use has your dog live with a sitter and their dog. This is important to me because I feel like the routine and consistency are comforting. I also like to know that she is going to get lots of attention, extra petting, belly rubs etc throughout the day. Granted my dog is probably more spoiled than most, and I couldn't think of leaving her at doggie daycare without myself for more than a few hours...even then it would be difficult but many dogs are not so "attached" to their owners.
thanks everyone who has replied and messaged me... I will pass the info on to DH who is writing a business plan for my work colleague.

Anyone else want to answer?......
Please rate in order of most important to least important when dealing with a service for your dog?
Low price #4Quality of service #1 Meaning cleanliness, webcam, space, hours of operation, person/dog ratio, safety, requirements as in vaccinations, interview with owner/dog to discuss particulars about the dog.Close to home #3 Or on way to work preferrably, which is in downtown Phoenix (city)Business-consumer relationship #1-2 if they are not professional and personable to the human, how would they be with the dog?

If business is out of THE city, would you still use this service? (eg. You live in the city or and the business operates in the suburbs, or vice versa)

Yes See above related to work
No

If you answered yes, how far will you be willing to travel? (approx distance in km’s) within 1-2 miles of route to work. If I'm home I have no need for the service. We have 2 dogs, a dog park within 1 mile of home, friends dogs over, a big yard...

Whether you answered yes or no, would you be willing to pay for a pick up service? NO, I don't want them in any vehicles that I'm not driving.

On a scale of 1-10, 1 being NOT important and 10 being VERY important, is a big yard for these services (most importantly boarding) important? 10 if well maintained, no mud, standing water, free of stickers, loose sticks, all which are probably impossible in a large yard.

On a scale of 1-10, 1 being NOT close, 10 being VERY close, how close should this service be to parks, beaches, and walking trails. NOT EVEN A CONSIDERATION......I WANT THEM TO STAY WHERE I DROPPED THEM OFF, AGAIN, NO TRANSPORTING OR WALKING ON STREETS. TOO MANY THINGS TO EVEN CONSIDER. AS FOR BEACH...MURPHY SWIMS LIKE A FISH AND HAS NO FEAR. HE'D BE IN OVER HIS AND THE STAFF'S HEAD WITHIN THE FIRST 5 MINUTES OF BEING OFF LEASH. HOW COULD ANY FACILITY PROVIDE A SAVE OUTING SUCH AS THIS? WALKING TRAILS MAKES ME THINK OF TICKS.

Please feel free to add additional comments or information pertaining to what you would/would not like regarding these services.

Individual rooms at night, if dog is not used to being crated. Maybe even during the day if it's too crazy for some to handle the noise and stimulation. Webcam to me is VERY important. I look for that option above most other things. But that could be just me. I would like that they gave attention to details such as letting them have their own foods, no junky treats, making sure they had their own blanket or owners t shirt when boarding overnight.
I would not like that he/she just ran around a big room all day being constantly overstimulated and stressed by more agressive dogs. I don;t know of many or any aggressive doodles and I get concerned if they would have to be somewhere that they are defending themselves all day. We work hard on positive socialization, so I wouldn't want to negate that.

Thanks very much for all your
1) Quality of service, Low Price, Distance from Home, Business-Customer Relationship
2) N/A (I don't live or work in a city)
3) N/A (but in general we would be willing to drive up to 45 minutes from our home/work to the facility)
4) No
5) 5
6) 0 (I also wouldn't want our dogs removed from the facility

We look for a facility with 1) a webcam and 2) that allows play for much of the day. We would not board D&K at a facility where they were in a cage all day. We also consider having flexible drop off/pick up times to be important..
1. #1 Low Price, #2 is Quality and tied with Close to home, #3 is Business-consumer relationship --- I work 8-12 minutes from home on surface streets. So for me, in my small town, anything more than 5 miles away is too far.

2. No. Even if I lived in a bigger town, it would need to be either near my home or my work.

4. No.

5. 5 -- I really don't care about the size of the yard as long as my dogs would have some exercise AND the potty area was kept VERY clean and sanitary.

6. Not important. I also wouldn't want someone else handling my dog outside of the boarding/day care facility.

7. I'm not as concerned about pampering at boarding facilities as much as I am about safety and cleanliness and staff that knows dogs and offers careful supervision. A clean room/kennel, brief exercise and staff that KNOW dogs and can keep things safe during the dog-dog interaction. That and strict criteria for what dogs are allowed to stay there. I wouldn't want my dog coming home with kennel cough, fleas, ticks, worms or looking like they've been slobbered on all day or hurt. That's all. Nothing fancy. But my dogs have never been to daycare or boarding (aside from overnights at the vet for surgery). I prefer to keep them at home and have some reliable friends stop in and let them out through the day. I think it is far more preferable to sending them somewhere else.
