perhaps its just the food? some foods just dont help with shiny coats. Obi is very shiny, and he did go thru a phase of dullness as a puppy, around 10 months of age, then he started scratching alot, and was very gassy..by the time he was a year old he was very dull, and miserable, we discovered he had developed a food allergy and is now on a salmon based food. his coat is so shiny and the scratching etc have disappeared. Some dogs develop allergies, and some foods just dont have the right stuff in them to promote a good coat. Obi was on Diamond brand foods as a pup, which have NO byproducts and other crap stuff in it, now he is on Pro Plan for sensitive stomach now and it is one of the very few Purina foods with NO byproducts or corn meal. He has done quite well on it.
I would check the content of his food and perhaps try something new... :)

Go check out some pics of our Lucy ..... she was coal black as a puppy, but is now very frosted (silver/black). She is almost 2 and still turning. Her mom was what they call a "blue" poodle, which explains her turning.

When we first got Tyson he was pitch black, but as his adult coat has come in it has started turning more of a dark charcoal. I have heard of other black doodles turning kind of gray-black, maybe that is what is happening.

My boy toby also loves the snow, he runs thru it, but mostly it's like he flies along. He does the nose thing and always looks at me thru the glass door, like aren't you coming out to sit with me?? Not so much LOL, but I sit by the door so he can see me and I can enjoy watching him play. Has anyone had any luck with balls you can toss and find in the snow. Tennis balls don't work all that well. Thanks for any hints.

I don't think we'll be getting snow anytime soon. I'm a little jealous because I'm DYING to see Callie frolicking in the snow! I think she would love it. I love seeing everyone's black doodles. I know I'm biased, but there's just something soooooo adorable about them!

And the best thing about having a black doodle when it snows...they can actually be seen better!

Yes, Ronya is a lucky girl ;0) here in the Netherlands. It was a long time ago, when we had so much snow, for many days.

Looks like a lot of fun is being had! Wish we had snow in London for Barney to play in...he loved it when we got a bit of snow in December.
