Tracy how bad does that neem spray smell and was the combination of the two (neem and DE) as effective as using the chemical topicals (ie Frontline)?  I would love to go the more natural route, but my vet keeps cautioning me against it.

Wow.  He is going to be a big boy.  I have one that is 28 inches tall, and about 64-68 pounds, and one that is 17 inches tall, and 34 pounds.  Last year, I put them both on the Neem Protect Spray, and did the Diatomaceous Earth outside.  I use Interceptor for heart worms on both dogs.

I think Kramer will end up between 60-70 pounds and maybe 24" tall.  The funny thing with his size is that he is a grazer.  Some days he eats more than others, but he has never gobbled his food.

The vet put him on Certifect and then Trifexis.  Then they realized that wasn't a good idea and changed his heartworm to Interceptor.  While he is growing so fast, I only buy one month of heartworm at a time to make sure we buy the right dose.

What are you using for heartworm and fleas?  Anyone ever use the collars?  My vet offered that to me and all I could think was that a flea infestation was only days away with that solution!

I think the fleas are going to be bad this year. I have several friends that use the pill Comfortis for fleas, and they said it is no longer working on their dogs.  I hated using the chemical flea stuff. Wow.  How big did they tell you Kramer would be?  Just curious, what do you use for Heart Worm Protection?  I have not found anything natural that I would trust to use on them yet.  We have a bunch of mosquitoes in our area.

Thanks Tracy.  I'm going to try it.  I live in St. Pete near the water and we have very sandy soil.  The fleas are so awful.  I read another post from a Florida breeder, I think it was Trinity Doodles, where she said she used DE too.  After walking Kramer to the park this morning, I literally could see a flea running around his back today...put me in a state of anxiety all day.  When I came home, that flea (or another one??) was still roaming his back..yes, I saw it again!  I just dosed him with Certifect.  I can taste it in my mouth after applying it to his skin with a plastic glove...I can't imagine how awful he feels.  He was growing so fast (he turned 6 mos today/45 pounds), the last batch I bought was for a lower weight (25-40 lbs) so I don't think he was getting the full effectiveness of the dose.

Connie & Kramer,

Just have to say that Kramer is very, very handsome.  I have a caramel cream doodle.  I just love the color.  We live in Lakeland, Florida, so I know your battle with fleas.  I went all natural last year, and put Diatomaceous Earth outside in my yard and I used Ark Natural Neem Protect Spray on both my dogs.  It worked well.  I have not done the Diatomaceous Earth outside yet, and boy can I tell.  A Holistic Veterinary recommended that I add the Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth to their food.  I am researching it now, and have not made a decision on it yet.   There are two types of Diatomaceous Earth, industrial/agricultural and food grade.  I just checked, and I put the food grade outside. Here is a link to the brand that she suggested that I add to their food (http://www.earthworkshealth.com/pets-animals.php).

Fleas! Fleas! Fleas!  and it's not even March yet!  Kramer is getting fleas from the neighborhood and parks we visit.  Poor thing scratches whenever he gets bit.  I am using Certifect until I can figure out another solution that is not as toxic.  I hate using this stuff, but the thought of a flea infestation in my house turns me off even more.  We live in Central Florida so I'm afraid this is just the beginning of a long season.  What do you use to control fleas?  I'm most interested in natural remedies that would deter them from jumping on him in the first place....Love my cream doodle, but I can see every little spec of dirt and bugs, it's driving me nuts!
