7 hours at night. Join the puppy madness group and get lots of support others with puppies going through the same stages you are.
Lynette, you are expecting too much too soon. You should be taking him out much much more often at 10.5 weeks - and if he doesn't go when you take him out take him out every 10 minutes until he does go. We got Ned at 14 weeks and he was able to hold it about 2 hours during the day and about 7 hours. You should take him out as soon as he gets up from sleeping and after eating. You need to limit his world (ie. not freely roaming around the house) because he doesn't really know what is inside and what is outside. It is great if he is asking to go out already, but you shouldn't count on it. The reason your dh has more accidents is because he is not reading the signs that he has to go potty and in his haste to make sure he can 'hold it' he is NOT taking him out.
I see some postings from January regarding the issues I am having, but I would love to hear from anyone who has been there/done that. Bailey is 10.5 weeks old. We've have him for 2.5 weeks at this point. We are novices at the puppy thing, but initially we thought he was doing an excellent job with house training. A few accidents but mostly successful. Unfortunately, the past few days he has been going in the house. I know he can ask out because he does it about 50% of the time. The rest of the time, I beat him to it because we are taking him out very regularly to set him up for success. It seems to happen more to my husband than me, but not exclusively. I've also noticed, that once he has his first accident in the house there will likely be more later in the day. He is consistently making it 8 hours over night. The accidents do not occur when he is just waking from a nap either. It's while he's up and about, checking out the world around him, eating or playing. My husband thinks if we take him out too frequently he will never learn to hold it. I think, he holds it for 8 hours at night and generally for two 2 hour+ naps each day. Any thoughts? We are going to get better about treating him every time he goes outside but I don't know what else to do. Those first few days were so promising. Help!
i took treats outside when it was potty time and gave them a treat outside the moment they were done going. I even did this when we adopted Ollie who was almost 2 and already housebroken, but I wanted to make sure that he knew exactly where he was supposed to go.
I laugh too, after I growl when I clean it! C',mon poop in the dining room? We have a big house Bridget, at least pick a different room ;)
Tricia, I know it isn't funny and that you are very frustrated, but the fact that she has places that she prefers for each type of "business" just made me laugh.
@ Adina. Piddle.... she prefers the living room or front room/den. She EXCLUSIVELY poops in the Dining room. How's that one for you?
