Oh, dang it! Some pups are more stubborn than others about this. Maybe you could try setting a timer and sending her outside to go potty every 45~60 min for a few days, whether she needs to or not. Hopefully it will help her change her "habit" of going indoors. Hang in there!

If her meals are on schedule her poops should soon be. If you expect a poo, walk her longer or crate her and try again.

Hi Linda. They aren't even set backs. They are "consistents." She goes 85/90 percent outside, but even when the temp is milder, she finds a spot to piddle or poop indoors. Very discouraging. I will celebrate when this stage is behind us.

Hi Tricia, from my experience, it's common for them to have little set backs like this. Especially when the weather turns cold. They step outside and say, "Hey, it's freezing out here - I don't need to go potty THIS bad" - lol! (Toddlers who have recently been potty trained do the same thing when winter comes - haha!) With patience and consistence (you may have to stand outside with her in the morning until she goes) she will get back into her good-girl routine.

Bridget is 15 weeks today. We have had her since 9 weeks. She consistently potty's outside, almost from the time we got her, but chooses to go in the house also. This is the third morning she went outside immediatley after waking then came in the house, and pooped on the rug. Grrrrrr.... Not happy here :(

Diane, I am in the process of "childproofing" Murphy so that I can trust him when the grandkids are here.  There's no real issues with the older kids, but there have been concerns with the 18 month grandson.  I've worked with my trainer on this over the past few weeks and we have seen some success.  I published a discussion in the Training Group on how we went about it, and it might be helpful.  Here's the link...http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/trainingmindsets/forum/topics/chi...  For me keeping Murphy gated in another room as the kids arrived and not letting him out until he was calm was a key.  Also, a solid down/stay if critical.  Good luck!

as much as I love my furbaby, I love my grandbabies more. that being said, does she visit often? once every few months? this would make a difference in how I would handle it. If my grandbabies were here for a weekend, I would board the dog so I could enjoy the grandbabies without worrying about them getting hurt. I would be stressed trying to watch the dog when I would want to put all attention on family. If she lives close by and visits often, I would do as you do..crate the dog until the newness wears off upon arrival, let the dog out to sniff and maybe put emma back with a kong filled with a yummy treat.  I would be more concerned with the grandbaby hurting the dog.. 14 months old is still very young to know how to be gentle all the time.. my two cents. good luck.

Diane, I don't have any exact advice for you but I know all dogs are food motivated if the item is high value and used only for training. Bacon, Liver, even real chicken bits are often used for training purposes. Firm commands, combined with the use of the bacon (or whatever), will teach her better than crating will. I use the "Down" command for any jumping up. But the main thing is to be consistent and to teach it before your GD arrives, then when she does, never allow Emma to jump on her at all. You may have to enlist your daughter or son to help your GD, so that you can focus your attention on Emma until she gets the idea but teaching the command before your GD arrives will make it easier. Find that high value treat that she will respond to. Let us know how it goes.

Emma (3 years old) really has a problem with excitement, mostly when our 14 month granddaughter comes to our house; she almost jumps out of her fur!  Now that the baby is walking, she will try to jump up to kiss her and obviously knocks her down! Unfortunately, she is not food motivated, so giving her a treat, bone, Kong, etc., really doesn't work.  I've put a leash on her, put her in her crate until she calms down, etc., etc., but I don't want her to associate the baby visiting with being punished.  The only thing that would change her focus is if I give her a ball, which I don't like her to have in the house, since she really is obsessed with that, too!  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.
