@Tracy, I can't imagine that adding the diatomaceous earth to the food would be of any benefit for external parasites. I have heard of it used as a treatment/preventative for internal parasites though. I have used DE externally for fleas on previous dogs with good success but it is kind of nasty to work with as you know if you have used it for other applications. :)

Hello.  I noticed a couple of members use Flea Free and Diatomaceous Earth.  I was wondering, if you are happy with it.  I use the Diatomaceous Earth in my yard, and I have been using Neem Protect Spray. I am interested in finding out about adding the food grade Diatomaceous Earth  to their food.  Any thoughts?

Here's a video done by a vet about raw feeding:

Sometimes I do say something because it's hard for me to keep quiet. I have to bite my tongue at the vets all the time. I don't want to alienate them as they are good to me, but it kills me to see people going in there and buying RC.  Many of the pet stores here carry raw food. My homeopathic vet sells raw of course.

Hi Barb, You said as a breeder you feel it is your responsibility to educate people to feed raw. In a way they are your puppies & you can educate the new owners, then it is up to them to keep feeding raw but would you say something to someone in a pet store who is buying kibble? I think it is just easier for some people to just keep filling up the dogs dish with kibble. Going raw can take up a bit of time if you add all the drops from the Naturopath which I don't mind doing at all :-)

We feed raw.  Had a similar experience as in the article with a beautiful boxer we fed "crapple" to back in the mid 80s.  After he died at the ripe age of 4, loaded with cancer, we heard about a breeder who fed raw meat and bones to her dogs and they were super healthy.  Our next dog was raw fed, though not as well done as we are doing now with Misty.  Now there is a lot of info and help out there for people who are interested in raw feeding.  We belong to a couple of raw chat groups - rawfeeding and rawchat - both yahoo groups.  I recommend to anyone interested in learning more!  Yay for Barb as a breeder that she raw feeds her dogs and puppies - and it's so cool that she gives an extra year of health warranty if they raw feed!

Liana

I take a slightly different point of view. I feel it is my responsibilty as a breeder to educate people to the best of my ability. I don't force my beliefs on people, but rather encourage them to learn and support them in the process if they are willing to keep their puppy on raw. I also add an extra year of health waranty if they follow the raw food diet during the waranty period.

I would never push anything on anyone but I wish more pet owners would feed their pets raw. I see people buying huge bags of dog food / cat food ( I used to be one of them - buy 10 bags & get the next one free ) & I just so want to say something but don't. This is where I get Jindi's food. http://www.completepet.com.au/welcome.aspx
