Hi Lynn - I personally don't have direct hospice experience (I work for an insurance co. so do prior approvals for them all the time but that's the extent of my involvement), however I do have a friend who works for Hospice of AZ and loves it. When Bosco reaches a year old, I'd love to have him complete therapy training to get him involved in one of the local hospice organizations. Good luck to you!

Does anyone have hospice experience? I have been thinking about giving it a go. I would love to hear about your experiences, good or bad. If you don't feel comfortable sharing here, you can PM me for my IM username or my e-mail address.

Hi Marcia, I know what you mean about retirement. I was hoping to retire
in about 6yrs. We will see. I've been fortunate to find a job outside the
hospital this past year. I never knew there was another world out there.
Congrats on your new puppy. They are such fun when they are learning.
I don't miss that chewing phase though. Just think how much fun you
will have painting your puppy!

Hi, I'm a RN/BS and never thought I would reach a point in my life where I would be looking forward to retirement, but it's just around the corner. I've worked OB & surgical, then prison nsg., then industrial nsg., and for the past 16 years have been working for the best MD in town! I plan to retire when he does (3 yrs?). Plan to spend alot of time with my new puppy that we're picking up this Friday. Oh, did I mention I'm also an artist? YES - - - - I'm looking forward to retirement and staying home with my husband, puppy and paint.

Jazzy's elbows seem to be healing up. She has finally started laying on the mattress pad we folded over to double the cushioning. Not all the time but alot of the time now. We keep telling Neely to get off when he trys to play on it or use it too. I am still using the polysporin and massage as well.

No drainage, doesn't smell. They started off looking like big warts. They have been there for years. But recently the two front elbows have rubbed the thick outer top off they are reddened and are matting around the edges with dark brown matter (likely weeping of some sort) I shaved off the fur around the outer edges. This has helped with the matting. It helps to keep it clean as well. I wipe them and use polysporin. She refuses to stay on her bed when laying down. She has some worn areas on her back leg joints starting as well. I bought bandages but to no avail.

Hi there, I am not a Nurse. I have worked in healthcare all my life. I am a healthcare aide that lead to a career in nursing homes and homecare. That lead to having an activation techniques in Gerontology degree that I used to faciliate rehab within the long term care facilities under the direction of the various therapists involved in care. That lead to a position in the community as a home health care supplier and ADP authorizer. After having to leave the workforce on a disability pension due to a genetic disorder for 10 years I am now back to work in an optometrists office as a receptionist/assistant. I hope you accept me in your group. I have a specific reason for joining as I need help with wound care. I have a 17 year old lab shep x that has calloused elbows. She has had them for years but they have recently become open and enlarged like the start of a bed sore. I have been massaging in poly sporin. I have also shaved the surrounding fur as it was matting into the wound. She lays on hard surfaces even though her mattress is there. Most nights she sleeps on the bed though. She has recently started to lick at it as well. I tryed to dress it with poly and gauze and tape. Any other ideas?

Hello, I am a recently retired Family Nurse Practitioner. Also worked as a Nurse Clinician in Neurosurgery, worked Labor and Delivery for about 12 years, and was a Licensed Marital/Family therapist. Seems like I did a little bit of a lot of things including teaching L&D clincal to Duke Accelerated BSN students. I am resting now, with my 2 year old Labradoodle, Webber who is a TDI certified therapy dog. We are trying to get permission to visit at the inpatient Hospice facility near by. In the mean time, we have been at Ronald Mc Donald house and once to the VA hospital.
