Sorry, I didn't realize there were so many.

This is the one I really like.  Keep in mind, they are a little rigid, which is perfectly fine, but I believe a lot of them feed ONLY meat, whereas, I know I like to add a few other things.

This is NOT BARF.

Vicky,

I see there are quite a few Yahoo groups on BARF and raw diets, is there a specific one you would recommend and could you please share the link?  Thanks!

Cindy M,

Sorry.  I misunderstood.  I started on Monday adding yogurt, eggs.  They were already getting vegetables and fruit.  Later this week, I am going to add meat. They should be done by the end of the week with the Honest Kitchen Zeal.  It is a dehydrated raw fish based food.  They love it.  They both enjoy food time so much.  They seemed to really enjoy the eggs and yogurt.  Any preferred meat you can recommend to start with?

Tracy, I am not feeding any commercial raw products - just raw chicken, beef and lamb, and considering pork, I also give them eggs, yogurt, mackeral and occaionally some veggie mash that I mix in the blender. I still am using up the remaining kibble that I have in the house.

Thank you everyone for your support and advice!  Jake is definitely a gulper and I will keep that in mind to look for the larger pieces.  But when you mention their strong stomach acids breaking down the bones, this concerns me with Jake a little, as the reason we are switching to raw is due to digestive issues.  One of his symptoms is that if his tummy doesn't break everything down within 10 hours, he is vomiting up whatever is left.  With something like this would be it better to start off with ground ingredients or do you think I should try the big chucks first and see how he does with them?

Vicky,
Thanks I will check out the Yahoo group. Thanks for an example of foods you use for Jamaica. Laura and Ruby sent us a sample diet for a couple of days to follow as well. Thank you everyone so much.

Just thought I would pop in with a word of encouragement.

I have been feeding Jamaica raw ~I prefer to call it "real"~ for almost a year now, and she is a VERY happy and healthy Doodle.  She also has nice breath, small unstinky poops, and her ears are clean and clear.

We aim for balance over 4-5 days.  Her diet consists primarily of beef, chicken, pork, Jack mackeral, green beans, black beans, cottage cheese, sweet potatoes (or yams), Greek yoghurt, raw eggs (I then grind up the shells and sprinkle on top) a few nuts, a bit of avocado ~ you get the idea.

I also give her Omega-3 oil caps, Glucosamine & Chondrotin and freshly ground flax seed.

Take look at the Yahoo! Raw Food Group.  They are a little rigid, but have some excellent advice and are very generous with their help.

Good for you for doing this for you Doodle!

Cindy,

Thanks.  What commercial raw do you feed your dogs?

Andrea,

Thank you so much.  OK.  One of my guys has a pretty good size head.  Ha, ha.  I like the idea about feeding it frozen or partially frozen.  I bet they will love that. Thank you so much.  I feel better now.  Not anxious anymore.

Cindy,
Thanks. I have a dog that gulps as well, and I was feeling a bit anxious. I have noticed a huge difference in both dogs coats since the switch to Honest Kitchen (dehydrated raw). I can not wait to see what the raw diet does for my guys.
