We brought our new puppy home last night! Her name is Kalli. She is a black F1 goldendoodle. We are in love already. Daisy (our 2 yr old goldendoodle) is not so sure yet, but being polite. The first night in the crate went well. She only whined for about 30 seconds. She only needed to go out 1 time in the middle of the night and settled right back into her crate without a peep. I know better than to think it will all be this easy, but I'm grateful for a successful 1st night with our family.

Well, Kimberly... Just Count your blessings! I think it's a perfect time.... puts everything into perspective! Teachers are capable of handling MANY things at one time! You can do ti! Congratulations! Can't wait to see pictures and hear all about your new addition!

Ok - I've lost my mind. Three days before parent teacher conferences and I'm picking up a new puppy. And... I'm so excited I can hardly finish my progress reports.

Shelly, thanks for posting this trailer... It made me think of my youger daughter who just graduated last year. She went to very exclusive prep school ( $30,000 per year ) on academic scholorship. Mandetory varsity sports, mandetory volunteering, etc...besides crazy amount of homework and research.... Plus, socioeconomically, we did not belong there. All of those mandetory things were possible for the people who had butlers and stuff, who waited on them. She ended up with depression, but wanted to graduate from there. She said that she did not suffer for nothing...( She is now in collage, majoring pre-med) I thought that we were doing the right thing by sending her there... but it was very very difficult. You know youth suicide is very high in Japan... They commit suicide because they did not get into a good high school, collage, etc.... I remember going to second school after normal school to prep ourselves to get into good high school, attending academic summer camp, being canned in the hotel over the summer just study.. how crazy is that?! I did that through out Jr. High becaue I happened to make good grades. so , after I got into a really good high school, I did not give a s*** any more!!! Hahaha!!!

This'movie' was playing at a few local schools this past Thursday. I didn't have the chance to see it, but even just the trailer makes an impression. With all of this"Race to the Top" this shows how we are truly stressing out the children!!... hope the link works!

I hope so! Thank you for the compliment. I truly love teaching and elementary aged kids. I do feel like a dinosaur though because I just can't get with the direction (at least in my state) education has gone. My current opinion is that our schools are only interested in the state tests and not in educating children to be productive citizens and we are not using our training to TEACH, but to give out information, pretend that you are motivating students and reaching all levels but at a pace that is leaving most kids behind and boring the rest. Obviously, it is about time I move on. Just think I will be able to volunteer so I can actually teach a group but not worry about the other stuff. I will LOVE that. :)

Funny how I don't personally know you , but I can tell you must be a wonderful teacher, just from listening to you! I know that many 'younger' teachers/principals lately come in thinking that they 'know it all'... perhaps he is just of that generation. I am SURE he will be pleasantly surprised!

Being a parent has made both my husband and I better teachers. We say that all of the time. I really think that the new principal and I have just not bonded in any way, but perhaps we will before the year is out. Perhaps I threaten him in some way, maybe because I am older, maybe because I teach special ed., maybe because he can sense that I can't be bullied because my personal life IS my priority and there isn't really any real threat to my job. He could make my last year unhappy and stressful because he does have the power to do so, but hopefully that won't happen. I really hope that when he observes me, we will make some kind of connection and I will enjoy this year. Who knows? When it comes down to the final retirement decision, perhaps I will decide to continue for another year or so....

LOL Kyoko!!! It bothers me SO much when teachers/principals are parents and are still so insensitive to family and children!!! I think that being a mom has actually made me a better teacher! Maybe he's just in the wrong profession... he sounds like he may fit in better in the 'business world' and NOT in education at all!

Ooohhh, Kyoko, perhaps you are right. Hopefully, he will have realized over the weekend that I just couldn't get everything done for the 'dog and pony show' that a formal observation requires, and will be fine with the rescheduling.
