It must be so great to see the kids identify with Rosco so much. Are you going? They did say anyone.

One of Rosco's library kids was so cute this week. At the end of her session she asks me "have you heard of the Blueridge [local elementary school]cheerleaders?" She proceeds to tell me that she is one of them and apparently there having some kind of show coming up and that "anybody can come!" She tells me several times "anybody can come." And finally suggests " maybe Rosco would like to go..."

Does anyone know if there is money out there to help pay for a therapy dog for an autistic boy in NC?

It's never too early to start on the basic obedience commands you will need to pass the test. Keep in mind that your during the test your dog will be faced with many distractions and she will need to be able to complete the commands without getting distracted. When I took the test there were over 90 other dogs in the same auditorium. Talk about distractions. I would recommend you go online to Delta Dogs or Therapy Dogs International and download the test requirements. Work with your dog as much as possible on the requirements and give her a little time to settle down. Then when she's matured some you'll be ready to go. Make sure to expose her to as many people and situations as possible to build her confidence. Therapy Dogs can't be skittish. Good Luck Cindy & Doodle

It's NEVER too early to start training of any kind...just start and she'll get better and better the longer you stick to it consistently. Make every outing a training outing...go for it!

What age is the best to start therapy training? My doodle just turned one and we are gonna try some therapy training but I don't know if I should wait till she is a little older because she is still kinda a puppy and is all over the place. Should I wait for her to calm down a bit before we start training?

I agree with you about how wonderful these dogs are and how well they can be trained to do such good works. I would love to hear about other peoples experience doing therapy with doodles.

Our group at dog classes is getting ready for our christmas super dog show! We are planning to visit a few local area seniors residences and our trainer is looking into us visiting a long term residence for children that we may visit as well. I am looking forward to being involved, christmas is such a special time of year. This will be my first christmas with Lucy and the first time we involved in pet therapy.

Congratulations. Doodle and I have been doing therapy work for over a year and a half. It is so rewarding. You will love it and so will Halas. My dog gets so excited when I pull out his special collar.
