Training - Experiences, Challenges, and Mindsets

This group provides a "safe place" for members to share their experiences with training, celebrate "big and little successes" and gain insights as we encounter challenges, to support one another, and to explore how our mindset affects our training.

QUESTIONS REGARDING PUPPY BEHAVIORAL CONCERNS (less than 4 mos of age) are better placed in the Main Forum or the Puppy Madness Groups.  Once our Doodles reach the age of four to five months, they are ready to begin their obedience training, and this is the place to share experiences.

I STARTED A NEW CGC COLLAGE, BECAUSE WHEN I ADDED JACK DOODLE AND JAKE THE PICTURES BECAME TOO SMALL TO REALLY SEE....SO NOW WE HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM FOR MORE CGC GRADS!!!!!

Congratulations HATTIE!!!!!

So, the Rally people suggested to me that I should enter Maggie in the show that's coming up at the end of August. They have Rally on Friday, so we could actually do that one day. But I'm looking at…Continue

This week Willow has decided that sitting for exam is terrifying. We've practiced. She will sit and let me go over her like a champ. Feet, ears, tail, teeth. No problem. But when the instructor bent…Continue

I have a very good motivated Goldendoodle. This makes perfect sense. Pick up those treats along the way!

We're thinking of reenacting that test on Thanksgiving.  :)

We don't have a problem, Sherree, but yes, one dog can pile up all the toys.  Clancy gathers toys and lays on them.  At first I thought it was an accident - dumb me!

Thanks all. We are going to do a lot if individual "leave it work" and also make sure there are lots of toy choices around. She can't possibly pile them ALL up, can she.......

I have the same situation with my two.  My Standard (who is VERY pushy) always takes toys away from Guinness.  They are four and five years old, and this has been going on from "day one".  Guinness will usually just go get another toy....which his brother then wants.  I used to intervene but now I mostly just let them work it out.  Every now and then Guinness will get fed up and growl and snap....Murph will usually back off when that happens.

Just an example of what happens at our house along the lines of what you are experiencing:

Hurley (he is almost 3 years old) has his favorite toys that he chews on and pays fetch with.  But when his doodle girlfriend (Karma is 2 years old) comes for play days and often for sleep overs she rules.  She takes his favorite toys from him and chews on them and even tears them up.  He lets her.  I guess I could say he is a gracious host.

She is a medium doodle and Hurley is a standard so there is at least 20 lbs or so difference in their weight.  But she still rules.  She plays very rough and he lets her do whatever she wants to him.   On occasion she pushes him to far and he will let her know that he has had enough.  Anyway, I let them work it out.
