Training - Experiences, Challenges, and Mindsets

This group provides a "safe place" for members to share their experiences with training, celebrate "big and little successes" and gain insights as we encounter challenges, to support one another, and to explore how our mindset affects our training.

QUESTIONS REGARDING PUPPY BEHAVIORAL CONCERNS (less than 4 mos of age) are better placed in the Main Forum or the Puppy Madness Groups.  Once our Doodles reach the age of four to five months, they are ready to begin their obedience training, and this is the place to share experiences.

I STARTED A NEW CGC COLLAGE, BECAUSE WHEN I ADDED JACK DOODLE AND JAKE THE PICTURES BECAME TOO SMALL TO REALLY SEE....SO NOW WE HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM FOR MORE CGC GRADS!!!!!

Congratulations HATTIE!!!!!

So, the Rally people suggested to me that I should enter Maggie in the show that's coming up at the end of August. They have Rally on Friday, so we could actually do that one day. But I'm looking at…Continue

This weeks training challenge (Willow)

Started by Stacy. Last reply by Stacy Aug 8, 2019. 10 Replies

This week Willow has decided that sitting for exam is terrifying. We've practiced. She will sit and let me go over her like a champ. Feet, ears, tail, teeth. No problem. But when the instructor bent…Continue

WTG, Murphy and Mom!

Murphy is heeling! It's far from perfect....his Mom is a bit of a "clutz" which doesn't help. But that's okay...he's doing a great job. If the rain doesn't keep us in the next two days, we should have a video over the weekend. Today he handled some pretty tough distractions in the Park....two dogs and a group of teenage girls hanging balloons all over the soccer field. There was no lunging or barking.....he broke his heel but only for a minute, and then he was right back in place. I'm so proud of him. You know the best part....he really likes working. He puts his "working collar" on and jumps right in the car...tail wagging.

Gee thanks everyone :)
I like Doodle Magnetism - should be a new phrase.

Are you saying you have doodle magnetism? LOL!!

You are so brave!! I don't know if I will ever have the nerve to let Tara off leash in public!! I'm WAY too neurotic but I would LOVE for her to be able to move about freely!

I think you are not giving yourself enough credit!! Bonding with you and wanting to be near you is all part of the training/relationship-it's a package deal!

Good work, Peri and Allyson!!!!

Allyson, you don't give yourself enough credit. That "stick like glue" thing is called a bond, and while some breeds are more apt to bond more closely, it's just a tendency, not a guarantee. You have to develop that bond with your dog.

Well I have a teeny success story and this is not from me (I don't think) - this is from Peri just getting older and more mature. We took a hike on my parents' property on Sunday and she was able to be off the leash for a portion of it. She stayed by us and was attentive to our commands. I was nervous but DH knew she could handle it and he was right. We had been practicing taking small steps in that direction. As long as we have treats, we are good. I think she is okay because she is like my gluegun - that's what we call her because she won't leave my side. So it must be a breed thing not an owner/training thing...

Wow, Adina, Boca is so awesome in that video! Sure makes me see how slack I was with our girls when they were that young... I would be so proud!
