Because of the extreme weather where my sister lives, she has been confined to her house for four days and has been going insane. Not that I think that is a very long trip for her, but she is bored and on the fourth day decided to paint her bedroom. She told me she asked herself, “What does Laurie do all day to stay busy?” and then…

This blog post was inspired by Paul Schumacher's discussion "Water Bowl Tipping."
Cally is now a little over four months old and she is showing her true colors! I have come to learn that Cally loves water and will get to it at all cost...and I mean all costs. We started her off with two regular stainless steal bowls that sat in my dining room. Cally quickly learned that she could play in those dang bowls. Well…

Pepperoni and sausage pizza, two diet Ginger Ale sodas (YUP, TWO!), followed by a few scoops of vanilla ice cream for dessert can really do a number on a person late at night. That was my dinner a few months ago (what was I thinking?). I craved it, I enjoyed it, and I didn’t get sickHOWEVER, I had a nasty nightmare once I fell asleep. I dreamt I lost Leo! There was no ending, because I woke myself up too soon. With no closure, I find myself thinking about it…

If you are reading this and are not in possession of your puppy yet, then I admire you, cuz you are just like me!! I searched high and low to find someplace to read about just what to do with a new pup. You see, my husband and I did not have pets growing up and our children (14 and 11) have had limited exposure to dogs, let alone puppies. I wanted to find a book, an article, something that would tell me what to do from minute one....I did not want to mess this puppy up....I have great…

Our Maltese Rescue California 501(c)(3) tax status has been approved back dated from August 2013. It took a long time because of the government slowdown. But now we are OFFICIAL!

I was busting from the seams with excitement earlier this week when the tunnel arrived. It was like Christmas morning all over again – but in January!
I ordered this thing with the hopes of some cold weather fun while we were cooped up in the house. I just knew once I set it up – it would transform my basement into a theme park replica.
I envisioned Harley and Leo chasing balls through it, DH and I bruising…

I try never to compare my children and I try never to compare my dogs. I tell Vern all the time he is the smartest dog I know, but I always have my fingers crossed behind my back when I say it. The only way that statement could be true was if Vern was the only dog I know. Vern is a simple dog. He is an easy dog…

This year's resolution was to add some cross training on those days I don't run. I read about the 7 minute workout that seems to be the new trend towards quick 30 second sets of several different exercises with a brief rest between each exercise. …

We got a call from a family who live on a golf course in the city of Los Angeles who wanted to surrender their Maltese. The reason for the surrender is that a coyote has been stalking the dog while they take it for walks. Since they live on a golf course, they are not allowed to put up a fence and need to walk the dog to go potty.
Apparently the coyote has grabbed another dog while it was being walked on a leash and this same coyote has followed the Maltese into the family…

It is that time of year when most of us make our New Year’s Resolutions. I don’t make many, mainly because I never keep them, so it seems like a waste of time. Sometimes, I vow to cuss less and then some slow driver pulls out in front of me, with no one behind me for miles, and proceeds to poke along in front of me and before you…

Where did those 7 weeks go!? Yikes! It went so fast!
The holidays were hectic with kids going in and out and all the holiday events, but it was good socializing for the pups--and then the families came and met them and everyone got a pup they loved--soon they will be on their way to their new homes and they are ready! So sweet and friendly--even when a gang of 6 college aged kids came over to visit, the pups had a ball--no issues!
I took some cute photos outside of all but one…
