Lilly turned 7 months old on January 2, 2012. We finally finished the cottage and have moved in. I was concerned about how Lilly would cope with new surrounding since she has been in one house for her whole life. I had nothing to worry about. She acted as if she always owned this place. We put up her bells on the door and she rings then to go outside. No accidents so far. When it is her time to go to sleep, she just goes in the bedroom and hops up on the bed. Doesn't matter if we are still…

It was Monday January 2nd, the legal “New Years” holiday. My husband and I had the day off from work and I wanted to purchase a couch at Costco, but Lee wanted to take the boys to the park and let them “run.” I thought it was a great…

Ususally Bailey sleeps in her crate all night. But this AM after my DH went to work(at 4AM) I snuck Bailey into bed with me. SHHH don't tell him.... She jumped right into bed with me and made herself comfortable. She usually will lay down with me in the AM for about 5 minutes or so and then is right up and ready to go. But this morning she slept with me for 4 hours. It was nice having a "snuggle bug" for the first time....
Especially since we live in NE Florida and it was…

A few weeks ago, I bought a frisbee to play with Chewie.
After a bit of a rocky start, he's now getting the hang of it and is able to catch it in mid-air. It's really fun and we both have a great time!! I think that doodles are incredibly agile and athletic. My previous dog was a golden retriever and he was not able to catch a frisbee to save himself.
DH and I still needs to practice on our throws though 'coz we're still not able to consistently throw it in a straight…

I can't wait to post a picture with all four dogs, Mater, Ozzie, Pippin and Harriet! Mater and Pip are really my first loves, and Ozzie is such a big lug sweetheart! Harriet is turning out to be a little terror. Hmmm, I wonder if Terrier and Terror came from the same root word. The vet thinks she has terrier in her, so I'm just thinking...

Luna came into the DRC rescue program with her (suspected) sister Stella (and they are aptly named...these dogs will be someone's moon and stars!). I of course don't know what happened in their 2+ years beforehand, but some horrible person did a real number on these girls. I had both Stella and Luna for about a month and while Stella is more outgoing and less fearful than Luna, she still had some anxiety issues and was overly protective of Luna. Stella is now being fostered by Eric Nater…

I wanted to update, so many of you have become so dear to me, I have so many private messages and emails that I have not been able to keep up so I figure a group email in the form of a Blog would do!!!!!
I am very pleased to announce both Jack and I are coming along amazingly well!!! The day my mom left was hard for Jack and I both. Jack was really acting out at yet another change and well I was kind of terrified at being home alone. Some wise women on here were right, we…

DH and I moved from the west coast of Canada (Vancouver) to Northern Ontario (Sault Ste Marie) 3 months ago... the weather is very different! We are used to pretty mild winters, so its a shock to the system having temperatures regularly in the minuses (Celsius). It has been pretty mild so far, but today is cold - minus 20 C. (-4 F)
Well I took Cooper out for her morning potty and play (fetch). The clasp on her long line (we do not have a fenced yard) was frozen solid so we had…

I cannot believe that my fur-baby turns three years old today. What a ride it has been this past year and, through it all, she has been my psychiatrist, confidant and quirky jester-always able to get a chuckle out of me despite some not so happy circumstances. Phoebe has grown up so much these past few years. My family and I cannot get over how she went from chewing on almost everything and everbody to an incredibly mild-mannered cuddler. With four boisterous and fun-loving children,…

I just saw the commercial for the ASPCA again...you know the one...the one with all the sad, pathetic, injured animals looking at the camera. As I sit and look out my window at my doods as they frolic and play in the snow I just don't understand how people can have animals and not feel the nurturing urges and joy that come with caring for a furry family member. My heart breaks for them as I grab a kleenex...again. Animal Cops also causes this same bewilderment and many times brings on tears…

First off: THANK YOU for all of the Christmas & New Year wishes! I have been MIA - enjoyed almost 2 weeks off and really tried to stay off the computer and away from technology (except for my e-reader) during that time. i think I was sucessful in that endeavor. My fingers are quite flustered by the computer keypad today due to lack of use :)
The day after xmas, we packed up the dogs and drove 9 hours to Amelia Island, FL, where DH's parent's live. They live one row…

Now that the dust has settled and the calendars have been ordered and placed on our walls or given as gifts to some lucky recipients, I think it is finally safe to talk about what went on in our household during this process. Last year, I submitted one picture only of Fudge and after I read the rules this year, I am pretty sure it was not even in the right format. This year, I took it far more seriously and asked my daughter to help me. I have worked…

Hi All! I've been off of DK for a while, but got so many sweet holiday messages that I wanted to post a quick (it's me, so quick AND wordy!) blog entry to catch y'all up! I've missed my DK "family", but sometimes life just gets in the way!
So, back towards the end of June, I got a foster named Lucy. Poor Lucy was scared of everything (especially me) and she ran away about an hour after I got her back to my house. Needless to say, the two weeks she was missing were among the…
