After 7 months Gavin finally got a trip to the groomer. I encouraged her to take it short. Spring is a time of renewal and shedding all that is unnecessary after all. Plus I figured a summer cut may bring us warmer weather.
Before:
Two and three quarters hours and $40 plus tax (and a really good tip) later:…

Well as our week together comes to a close, I though I would share one last story about the adventures of Mylie and Gavin. I learned this week that two dogs are twice the work, twice the expense and 10 times the laughs! Still not ready for a second one, but it was a positive experience (save and except Mylie’s frequent “vocalizations”).…

Is anyone familiar with the "Black Pawed Brown Snouted Canadian Goldendoodle"??

My house is a disaster. Please send a clean up crew.

Well we are at the conclusion of day two. Things have gone much better than I had anticipated. A few things have cropped up that were interesting.
The Walk – walk one started out a bit rough. Mylie is a puller! I needed to keep her on the gentle leader halter to handle her. I tried…

We are doodle-sitting this week. Mylie arrived about three hours ago. So far, so good. DH took Gavin to see Mylie on Wednesday just to re-aquaint them and get rid of some of the craziness. It worked really well. They got along famously. So good that when DH went to leave he was side tracked talking to my friend’s son and when he got back in the car, he found that Mylie had gone through the…

I have been doing so well with my loose leash walking that mom said it was time to “up the ante.” You see I think it is my personal, civic responsibility to meet and greet every man, woman, child and dog that I pass. I have done a lot of work on this, but still have a hard time resisting children and dogs. Mom says this is bad manners, but I don’t understand how being friendly is…

Gavin weathered his first long weekend at the cottage. He shall sleep for the next three days I am sure! A continuous parade of new people, dogs, woodland animals, birds, new rules and of course the water! We had a couple of mishaps: he was tethered on the back deck and broke his collar in order to visit a Shepard mix puppy that was next door; he also broke through his electronic…

First a little background…Gavin is somewhat regimented. He gets his whole serving of kibble in the morning and eats more or less half of it around noon. When I say half, I mean he starts at the near edge of the bowl and neatly eats halfway across; so half the bowl is shinny clean, while the other half is still piled high. He drinks his water from the far edge of the bowl, so his tongue can…

Just got back from the groomer for Gavin's first hair cut. I did not want her to take him too short, just even him out a bit. She did just as I asked and I was very pleased with the results. She also shaved out all of the poplar pods stuck between his toes! Her price was great too - $42 CND including tax! It took her two hours. I will for sure go back to her. As a bonus, when I went to pick him up, a lady was walking in with a doodle the spitting image of him. Turns out they are 1/2…

With the recent dump of snow in our area, I experienced my second major wipe-out while walking Gavin. The first time I fell on top of him. I bragged that he alertly assisted by breaking my fall. DH pointing out that poor Gavin had no choice - I had him pinned! But if he had not been in perfect heeling position...
Yesterday, I wasn't so lucky. I fell off to the right on yet another icy sidewalk that had been neglected by a home owner. I went down hard, but aside from a goose…
