It is completely foreign to my sweet little Callie that another dog might NOT want to play with her! At my sister's last weekend, she kept trying to play with their 14 year old lhasa/shi-tzu mix, Scoobie. Scoobie has been a cranky curmudgeon since she was a puppy, and this has not improved with age. Callie would run up to Scoobs, bump her with her nose, and then jump back. Scoobie's invariable response was to turn around barking, growling, and snapping. Since Scoobie doesn't have two teeth…

I'm at the office right now and I miss Callie! Hopefully, Callie is behaving nicely and is not chewing up the new sofa or tearing down the curtains I hung (all by myself...I am woman hear me ROAR) yesterday. I think Callie and I had too much fun yesterday...we played chase all over the house, went on long walks in the rain (we do such romantic things, me and my dood!), and did lots of good snuggling. Now I'm being my professional self (taking a small DK break!) and wishing I had that sweet…

No, she didn't eat the DVD, or the DVD case, if that's what you're expecting (not that anyone would be shocked!). It's winter time, and much like Callie, I've found that I put on a bit of a winter coat. However, I don't think mine (which is made of ice cream and cheese) is nearly as cute as her furry locks. Callie and I walk a lot, but I decided that I need to start doing pilates again to try and tone myself out of the extra padding. So tonight I was doing my formerly fave pilates dvd and…

I put a comment on a picture today. It was of an adorable doodle named Bernie and the picture featured his fantastic nose. That made me start thinking about my favorite parts of Callie, and made me curious if there were people who felt the same way, even if it wasn't on the same doodle part.
For me it's the nose. I love Callie's nose so much that it is ridiculous. It's huge. It's black. It's shiny. She has allergies so it's frequently runny. I don't care. There's just something about…

Have you ever heard yourself saying something, and even as the words are leaving your mouth your inner voice is going "STOP!!!!!"? I had one of those moments about two weeks ago when a co-worker asked me for the number of a place to board her dog over the holidays.
What I should have said..."Sure - here's the number to Barking Hound Village"
What I actually said..." I'll keep Zoey while you're gone"
So, fast-forward to yesterday, when Zoey, the adorable 6.5lb…

Ok...it started out as cute naughtiness, but Callie escalated into major destruction today...she broke, pulled down, and shredded the blinds in my den. Our schedule hasn't really changed, so if it is boredom, it's sudden onset boredom. I really don't know how to prevent this (first step of course will be confinement again when I'm gone). Any words of wisdom would be welcome!!!!!!!!!! .

Now, I've read all the articles that say poodles are one of the smartest dog breeds. Ostensibly, their intelligence is on par with a 3 year old's (I remain a little skeptical on that...I don't know any three year old humans who try to eat their own barf). Last night though, Callie displayed an intelligence that I found a little disconcerting. I was in the guest room/office working (love working for 4 hours after work...it's just been a super week like that) and Callie was laying on the bed,…

I do not know what got into Callie yesterday, but she out did herself in naughtiness. I haven't seen her so ill-behaved since the first week that I had her, before school and her learning all the "rules". It started Saturday morning...I woke up and the Callinator was laying at the foot of my bed, gnawing on my book. Not so good. We move on from that and I bundle up for our traditional long saturday morning walk. That starts out fine, until Callie decided it would be a WAY better idea to pee on…

Below are the lyrics to an oldish song (title above) by the Suicide Machines. This is a love song to a dog, and thought that some of y'all might enjoy the lyrics!
Sometimes I Don't Mind lyrics
There's something with the way you walk
There's something there that lights a spark inside of me
And it makes me want to sing - Makes me forget everything
There's something there inside your eyes
Lets me know you'd never lie - You fill me up and I know what you…

I was on a date recently and kept thinking "I wish I was at home, hanging out with Callie. That would be way better than this date". Needless to say, Bachelor #1 should not plan on a date #2!

I let Callie sleep in my bed with me...I know I should make her sleep in her very own bed, but she's so delicously snuggly! Callie's general MO is that she gets in my bed, and while I'm still awake reading she comes and lays her head on my chest so I can pet her ears and nose. Then, when I'm ready to go to sleep, she goes to the end of the bed, curls up and goes to sleep. This morning, when I woke up, she was snuggled up next to me, and her paw was on my hand, like she was holding my hand while…

I spend Thanksgiving with my family in Memphis. This year, "family" is inclusive of Callie, who I adopted in April, 2009. I always stay with my sister, my brother in law (BIL moving forward), and their 7 year old twin sons (my much beloved "nephs"). Sis and BIL have a new addition as well...Maisy, the miniature schnauzer, who is now 7 months old and is tipping the scales at 11 lbs. That's just pretty darn miniature. They also have another dog, Scoobie, a 12 year old blind-ish, deaf-ish, and…

First a little background on me...I had to have my dog Bailey put to sleep in November of 2006 (she wasn't a doodle, but another unusual mix - bassett hound/black lab). I loved Bailey and to this day have guilt about having her euthanized (even though my logical brain knows it was the best/only decision to be made). I wasn't ready to even think about getting another dog for a long time. In 2008 I was terribly sick for months, eventually getting a tentative diagnosis of Crohn's Disease. Once I…
