Yes, and I'm a big believer in Pet Insurance.  It has certainly come in very handy with our two Doodles.  There have been a few prior discussions on this topic with some great information on the pros and cons of different companies.  You might try searching on Pet Insurance in the Discussions.
Yes!

YES!!!!!!!!

I am having trouble with searching for the past discussions. Can anyone help with that?

I purchased the Silver Plan with GoPetPlan.com  with $200 deductible and 0 copay. It is not for the yearly visits and vaccines - it is for the unknown and the emergencies.

I have had to use it only once. got back my check within 2 weeks. Read the fine print - the Emergency clinic and specialists are reimbursed at 75%. For me - I pray that I 'waste' my money every year!!

Yes, I have insurance with GoPetPlan.com too. We had to use it once for Fudge. I am like Adrianne and hope I waste my money every year too. I think the Search option is having trouble right now.
No, just my preference.
My take on Pet Insurance is that unless you have an extra (at least) $10,000 sitting around that you are willing to use to save your Doodle, then you should have Pet Insurance.  There are so many stories on here from the terrible struggles with Cancer, to eating a piece of sugar free gum or a sock, or double hip dysplasia surgery,  that it just really isn't worth taking the chance.  For the cost of less than a nice restaurant meal per month, you can get a plan like PetPlan that so many of us have.    I pay something like $47 per QUARTER for each of my girls!
Absolutely, without a date the best $28 dollars a month spent. I have gotten my payment back twice fold since buying pet insurance. Our doodles are wonderful, but slightly high maintenance. Not big things thankfully, but silly things like ears, allergies, catching a respiratory infection from doggie daycare etc. etc.  Not doubt about it, pet insurance is the way to go. I have a great company that has paid out everytime...I have heard some horror stories about companies not paying out. Mine is VPI. You can check it out online.

DH and I are in the process of choosing a plan right now and I have to say that I am slightly confused. We are looking at the gold or silver plan, with gopetplan.com. Does it cover things like ear infections, tooth extractions, torn paw pads, etc? Or does it just cover things like car accidents, broken legs, etc? The description on the site doesn't seem to be very clear. When it says you are reimbursed... does that mean that you have to pay the money initially at the vet and they will send you a check later? Because if so... that is a problem. I don't have 8,000 dollars sitting around, period the end...

I hope I'm not hijacking this discussion... but I would really love some help!

You might also check on Embrace Pet Insurance.  I have had it over a year now and have received excellent service, quick reimbursements and the wellness plan is top notch. AND if you have a question, can talk to a real person(most of the time the same one!)    I had VPI prior and was constantly frustrated with their allowances, deductibles etc.  One of the biggest assests is that they will cover hip dysplasya.  They have a page on facebook as well.
Well I have the answer to at least one of your questions :)
All pet insurance (from what I've read) does reimbursement only- so you would have to pay and then they send you a check back for what the insurance covers.

My understanding of Go Pet Plan is that they cover anything other than normal, annual vetting that is taken care of by your vet or an emergency vet at whatever deducible and co-pay that you select as long as it isn't a preexisting condition.  That would mean if Darwin had already been to your vet with an ear infection, they might consider that a pre existing condition and not cover I'm not sure.    However, if you get refered to a specialist (like a cancer dr.) then the reimbursement is at a slightly lower amout (I think it was 75%, but could be wrong).  It is reimburseable after payment, but from what others have said the reimbursement is fairly quick.  I think probably what most people do is use a credit card to cover until the reimbursement comes in.  I would guess I would be able to get my vet to show it paid and then take the payment when I received it, but then I'm very small town here.

Anytime I've had a question and sent them an e-mail, I've always gotten an answer fairly quickly.  I've never tried calling as I just prefer having things like that in writing so I can refer back to them when my "old" brain can't remember what they said.

Thanks so much to the three of you for the info. I think we are going to go with petplan. I'm so excited to finally get this taken care of, it's long overdue!
