Milo came home last Friday afternoon at 7.75 weeks old.   Our 2yo doodle is still bonkers and wanting to play 24/7.  Milo holds his own and charges toward Boomer but I wish they weren't so playful at this stage since Boomer is 67lbs and Milo is 13.4 lbs (he looks so small but I had him to the vet this week and thats what he weighed.)

Here's some highlights:

1.  He goes to bed at 9pm and does not fight about going in to his crate.  My husband takes him out at midnight when he goes to bed.   I wake up at 6:30am with the kids and have to WAKE Milo up to go outside.  He hasn't gone potty in his nighttime crate.   Pinch me - I may be dreaming but thats pretty impressive to me.  And he hasn't cried at night either.

2.  He is crated for 3 hours each day while me/husband's work schedules overlap.   He walks in to his crate (ON HIS OWN!) about 15 minutes before I leave and lays down.   This is a HUGE deal to me.   Boomer never liked his crate but he would reluctantly walk in with a little push.   Milo naps in there ON HIS OWN.   He's doing that now as I type.   Gate is open but he's inside sleeping.   Even though he's only in the crate 3 hours (which is really pushing his daytime limit)....I come home to the smell of urine on his plush toys.   He must not go much because the crate is not wet but the stuffed toys smell.     I should probably not put stuffed toys in there that are absorbing the little urine that he goes.....he'd have to lay on a wet floor then.  I still think he's young and 3 hours really is pushing the limits.   I also think that he may not sleep totally-sound during those 3 hours because my 2yo doodle probably barks and/or sniffs at him so he probably has interrupted napping - which may also contribute to him not being able to "hold it" for those 3 hours that he's crated.

3.  I have NOT had to pull my carpet cleaner out yet.  This part amazes me too.   I watch him like a hawk and did catch him going potty but it was on a blanket so my carpet was saved.  LOL!    He goes potty immediately when I take him out.    I'm so happy about this but it really wears me out because I take him out ALOT and watch him closely when in the house.  But one accident in a week...amazed!

4.  We went to a puppy party tonight.   The training facility offers a 30 minute party for puppies 8 weeks to 14 weeks.  He had fun and was feisty.   I think my 2yo "big puppy" has influenced him.

When will the 2yo lose some of the interest in this puppy?   I want the puppy to be able to run across the room without Boomer pouncing on him.    It does go both ways though because Boomer was laying on an ottoman and Milo jumped as high as he could to get to Boomer.   I let them play but step in when I see it going too far.    Could they both be jockeying for Alpha position?

Lastly, I think we saw his legs grow this week.  LOL!  He looked short and stubby last Friday.   7 days later and I can see between his belly and the floor.   His legs look 2" longer.

Thanks for reading.  Have a great weekend,

Julie

I love the picture with both of them together.....
Sounds like you are off to a fantastic start!  Love the pictures!  Milo is adorable.
I love the photo of them together. So cute!

That picture of Boomer and Milo is priceless!!

You sound as astounded by all the good-puppy things as I was when I brought Trav home.  He too was pretty much potty trained from the beginning--did one poop inside on his first day here, but that was the ONLY time--except for once months later when he had diarrhea, tried to get my attention, and went in his crate.  He didn't cry at night either.  Having two pups sounds like a challenge--I felt like I was on dog-duty 24/7, and I only had one to worry about!

Congratulations! It sounds like a miracle puppy. Both of your pups are beautiful. My family has a four-year-old doodle and a 14 month old doodle. Daisy, the older one, was much less hyper when she turned three. So, Boomer might become less excited in a year. It sounds like your dogs are buddies already so that's good.
I love that picture of them together...sizing each other up for sure.  What a great little puppy.  Congratulations on your new arrival!

Julie, you are blessed:)  Sounds like they're doing more than great.  They'll settle in together. Lucca and Izzy just lay next to each other and nuzzle with little play biting or just sleep. They have their crazy moments also and they are becoming inseparable. Last night was the chase all house using the couch as a catapult:) I had to stop that one FAST:)

It's amazing how fast they grow. Izzy has become tall, thin and lanky. All that puppy fat is gone. I miss that cute fat belly!!

I LOVE the photo of the 2 of them together.

Everything sounds perfect to me.  Congratulations.  Enjoy your perfect puppy!
they are so cute!
OMD, Milo is adorable and so are those photos. Sounds like everything is going great!
Julie,
Your dogs are so cute, and they sound like they play together like my two do. We got our second doodle last year. Our first doodle had just turned one, when I got the second one. It is hard for me to believe my puppy has just turned one. Time goes by so quickly. We are going on one year together now, and they still play as much as they did in the beginning. They worked out the Alpha dog on the first day. They totally love each other.
Wow, sounds like everything is going really well for little Milo. Lucy also was a VERY easy puppy in all they ways you describe. You're lucky in that you had previous experience with Boomer, AND that Boomer may be helping with Milo's training. Lucy was/is our first dog, and I'm so thankful she was as easy in those first weeks as she was, especially after hearing stories of how hard it can be. It also sounds like Milo will be a big dog, as 13lbs at 8 or so weeks old is larger than Lucy was, but Boomer is bigger than Lucy too (she's 45lbs at 15 months old). Isn't it funny how they do seem to grow right before your eyes?! I swear I could see a bigger Lucy every morning for many months. Both your doods are so very cute! Love their coloring.
