OMD get those people outta there! LOL! Yes, kennel cough does have phlegm and it can be contracted even if they have had the vaccine. It seems to change in a way similar to the human cold virus so the vaccine may be affective for one strain but not another.

I don't think it warrants an emergency room visit but is it possible for someone to sleep near him tonight? In case it is something else and it worsens during the night it would be good to keep an eye on him.

I will keep an eye on him thanks Ricki!! I am sure that I wont be sleeping well tonite!! Last person just left and it is 12 midnight!! I will call vet and get him in the morning! He is sleeping quietly right now. He is probably happy every one is gone too!!

My dogs got it after they had the vaccine. They did not have bad cases and did not need medication, but I would be sure to get Amante to a vet. I hope he gets well soon!

R&B have both had KC, get him to the vet to start antibiotics and he will start feeling better soon. When bandit had it it sounded like he was choking and was vomiting phlem and I rushed him to er.

Wow, I am so sorry Amante is not feeling well and hope you get to the bottom of this in the morning.   It does sound like kennel cough or another respiratory type illness.  Hugs to you both.

Oh RoseAnn I hope Amante feels better.  My doodles never had kennel cough but my Shih Tzus had KC.  It was a horrible sounding cough/hacking, I never saw mucus but I went to the vet and they wore put on meds.  Oh they also were on the vaccine and go it !!!   I hope Amante gets better real soon... poor baby :(

The kennel cough vaccine works the same way as the flu vaccine in humans. The flu vaccine will not prevent you from getting the flu, it pre-exposes your body to the virus to allow your body to build up some resistance to that strain of the flu. You may still get the flu, but it should be less severe than someone who did not get the vaccine. The kennel cough vaccine works the same way. Even if a dog has gotten the vaccine for KC, they can still get KC but it should not be as severe as if they had not been vaccinated at all.

Wow - scary stuff.  We are watching for an update with our paws crossed!

Hoping Amante is feeling okay this morning....waiting for some good news.

keep us updated on poor Amante

Hope things are going better today --I am sure the natibotic will help in just a few days, once he is on it. Just in case you do not know, KC is very contagious between dogs. He should be kept away from other dogs completely.

Good morning.... any update on Amante?
