Last night we were relaxing in the back yard with the three dogs after dinner. My son left for college today, so it was a poignant moment and we were talking about the three dogs and how different they are. We all agreed that Mattie is our smart one--so much so, that is it like having another person around since she picks up on everything we say and do. Then there is Rio, who, at 1 1/2 is still a bit of a nut and has a lot of energy--but is such a loving dog. Lastly, we got to Lyric, Rio's mom, and we were talking about how she is a real DOG--she likes to run around and bark and roll in the grass, etc, etc. As we spoke, we looked over our shoulders at her as she approached our garden. The gate was wide open and she was getting really close to the tomato plants--all of a sudden, she turned around and had a BIG red tomato in her mouth! (Wish i had had my camera!!!!) We were all laughing really hard and she had this look on her face as if to say "What? I don't have anything...." It was so funny! The she ran with the tomato hanging out of her mouth to her favorite tree where she promptly laid down and started to eat it. I thought a whole tomato might not be so good for her little tummy, so luckily, she was willing to drop it when I offered her a small piece of steak that we had left over from dinner--What will these guys do next?

What a cute story! I wish I could have seen her acting innocent with the tomato in her mouth!
I wish you had your camera too. So maybe - take your camera out, leave the gate open and maybe... It would make a great calendar entry!
Last year I had the same problem with Shea.My husband would say When did Shea get that red ball? It was in the family room, This year I raised cherry tomatoes. He doesn;' go after them. Now WE eat cherry tomatoes.
