not cuddly

I have a smart, sweet, funny 11 week puppy.  Everything is normal...but she does not like to cuddle or be held much.  She will sleep at my feet, roll over for tummy rubs..but she doesn't like to be held for any length of time.  She wiggles nd wiggles to get down or becomes mouthy.

 

Has anyone else had this problem?

Some puppies like to be cuddled some don't.  Roo did not decide to get cuddly until he was about 2 and 1/2 years old.  Tigger was more cuddly at first, then became very independent and at 2 and 1/2 is willing to cuddle again.  Don't worry about it.  Try to let her leave you when she is wiggling, before she becomes mouthy, so she doesn't learn that mouthiness equals what she wants.  Enjoy.

Max doesn't cuddle either. Our cat Scarlet is my lapdog :-)

Buddy was that way then all of a sudden one day at probably 5-6 months he became a dog that liked to cuddle.  Now he comes to me and plops down on my lap or snuggles right next to me.  :)

I wouldnt call it a problem. Doodles are often very independent and dont want cuddles too much (they are not lap dogs) but they will follow you around everywhere. Cooper has become more cuddly as she gets older, but will still only cuddle for a short time.

Wilson likes to be petted and get hugs  alot  he is not much of a cuddler  but when he see's that my DH and I r snuggling he will be up on the coach in seconds  LOL LOL   He loves his belly rubbed too  and does follow us around  he is just a cute huggly doodle

Oh boy do I EVER know where you are coming from.  I really thought at first that something was wrong with my puppy or maybe with me.  A puppy that doesn't want to cuddle - WTD?  We had always had Labs and they were very good with cuddles.  Rooney loves to sleep with me - at my feet, loves the belly rub and lots of petty and the quick hug but being held - not very much.  BUT - as he gets older - he is liking it more and more so don't dispair.  Just don't force it on your puppy!

Both of our doodles have become more cuddley with age.  Neither are super cuddley, but both like it much more now than when they were younger.

I guess I should rephrase - Max will cuddle, he just isn't a lapdog. He loves belly and ear rubs, he sleeps with us except if he gets too hot he sleeps on the floor. He is 2 1/2 yrs old and has mellowed. When he was a puppy he also was wiggly. The only time he readily got on my lap was recently at the vet for his annual visit and I think he was scared. He sat there for about 5 min before she came in and then he jumped off and gave her kisses!!

Ollie is now 4 months old. He was extremely nippy and growly at first (especially at 11/12 weeks). He was also exactly how you describe. Loved the tummy rubs but started nipping within a few seconds. Hated to be held. You can see my old posts/blogs and you'll know what I mean. Now at 4 months he is quite the darling. He loves to sit with us on the sofa and will snuggle close and give kisses. He also is super attached to our family now. His nipping now is limited to when he is in a high energy/playful mood and even then he understands 'No'! It took a while but he got there. Just giving the same advice others here gave me. Keep training and be patient.

I agree with everyone that they get more cuddly as they get older and sit nearby for longer periods. Lapdogs they are not, but sweet devoted little shadows they certainly are. I just take the hugs and cuddles as I can get them !

Rua was a cuddler and loves to be held.  I started right away getting her used to being touched by giving her little puppy massages.  It is part of our morning routine right after morning potty and before breakfast.  I love it...I think she likes it too!

Our Bella left the breeder as a little cuddler at 10 weeks and within a week of being with us she was done being cuddled. Maybe we don't cuddle right. She is just so busy most of the time that she doesn't sit still for long. She won't even sleep in bed with us like Murphy, she jumps right down and goes to lay on the floor. Go figure!
