I hope there are many gardeners among us doodle owners. After all we must be nurturers. We can share information on what's safe for dogs, how to keep them from destroying plantings and all green related things.

Any one else have a coffee plant?

Comment by Linda, Charlie Brown and Beau on November 4, 2015 at 7:51pm

I bought a 6 inch coffee plant years ago (10 to be exact).  I had it in my office for years, and then brought it home.  It is now 5'5" and has branches that are about 18 inches long.  It produces flowers and then "beans".  I need to repot, but think I will hold off until spring.

Maryann and Linda, Thank you both for your information on growing Plectranthus.

Anne, I love the Plectranthus and I always cut mine way back and winter it over in the master bath tub with my tropicals to winter over.

Sharon ~ yikes on that snake.  I would have had to get rid of it.  Charlie Brown is scare to death of snakes.  He was walking down the driveway one day with my DH and a huge bull snake was crossing our driveway.  Charlie went over to investigate and when the snake raised up Charlie ran like the devil was after him.  Last week there was a garden snake in the yard and Charlie barked and quickly ran back to the patio.  I do not think I have to worry about him wanting to play with a snake!

Your Plectranthus is gorgeous.  We often get the one called Velvet Elvis out here.  We grow these all over southern Ca and as houseplants too.  In the house it needs bright light, but not direct sun.

To get one again as beautiful as this is, cut back hard about 6-8 weeks before you want to move it outdoors.  This will bush it up again as it will probably get leggy indoors.  I treat it like coleus if you are used to those indoors. When water goes through too quickly it will need to be repotted in new soil, unless of course, you put it in the ground every summer.

Anne, this is what I just read so seeds may not be a good idea.

Sharon I don't know what kind of snake it is but I sure would steer clear of it.
