WE rescued another. This one is a Labradoodle from Michigan. He was 8mo old when we got him. He is a barker. None of the other three were,so this is a change for us. I have used the spray bottle and he knows what that is,but still barks.I think hes better,or maybe I'm getting used to it.I know its never an instant fix with rescues. Hangin in there...
I am a very fortunate doodle Mom - I have 2 rescued doodles. Crackers is 7 1/2 and Oreo is 16 months. The are both terrific dogs. I only wish more people would take the time to find rescues like we did.
Thank you all for the kind words. We have been so lucky to have our Champ and I cherish every day with him. Soon I will add Scooby's Story to the Rescued Doodles Story Line.
Lauren, thank you for sharing Champ's story with us, he is a very lucky doodle and you are a very lucky doodle mom.
Lauren, I'm glad you picked Champ out of the shelter that day. I am sure he has had a long and happy life with you that he enjoys every single day.
Champs Story. When our Buster (mixed terrier breed) was approximately one year old, we decided it was time to get him a companion. We went to the closest shelter near our home which was the Humane Society. They had a number of young dogs and my DH caught sight of this little white ball of fur, with one ear up and one ear down, shivering in the back of his cage. We asked to see him and they brought him out to a room where we could interact with him. He was very nervous but very sweet. His name was Champion. He was about 3 months old and maybe ten or twelve pounds... just a little bitty thing. He was listed as a Golden Retriever/Poodle mix. A mutt in my mind. Good enough for me and good enough for Buster, who was also a mutt. That was way before I had ever heard of a "designer dog". At that time, to my knowledge, there was no such thing as a goldendoodle. We took Champ home with us that day. He was so nervous he drooled all the way home. Luckily I had a whole roll of paper towels in the car - and we needed the entire roll. We knew it was best to introduce two dogs on neutral territory so my husband dropped me off at the house to pick up Buster and my own car; and we met up at our local borough park. The two dogs hit it off right away, which seemed to put Champ at ease. After 16 1/2 years, it's hard to remember all of the details. What I can remember is that Champ never did "anything" wrong. He was and is the best dog. I can't remember having to even potty train him, though I'm guessing he must have had a couple of mishaps when he first arrived. He trained so quickly and so easily. He has never chewed on anything, never stole any shoes or clothes, never gotten into the garbage. He has been a very happy and playful boy who used to love to chase Buster thru the back yard and loved to take walks in the park. Whenever I would get him groomed people would stop me and ask what breed he was, and tell me what a gorgeous dog he was. He was so cute when his fur grew in, but he always looked so beautiful after he was groomed. His tail is like a fan. Little did I know I had one of the first "doodles" in Pittsburgh. Champ has had his little idosynchrocies. He has always been petrified of loud noises such as thunder, fireworks and sirens. He will shiver and hide in the bathroom or under the stairs in the laundry room. We have been so lucky with our dogs though and Champ is no exception. He is 16-1/2 now and has terrible arthritis in his back legs and nerve damage in his right hip. It is very difficult for him to get up to walk, but he still shows a lot of energy once he is up. We are enjoying every moment with have with this dear, sweet boy, our Champy Doodle.
oh no! that is terrible. I am glad there were no injuries.
amy, it's all your fault!! it's been almost 10 months since we've had any kind of "altercation" i think but since i was talking to you about it last week what happened??? 2 NOT 1 but 2 this AM, luckily my female corgi was in the kennel with breakfast (she's a guzzler & will go inhale everyone else's food too) or else she would have made it MUCH worse. the boys are bad enough but once she hears the excitement she launches herself at morgan & its the corgis against the doodle. anyway i got the boys separated, got the corgis outside figured a cool down & everything would be ok, wrong i let morgan outside & he headed straight for wyatt & it started right up & this time oakie was outside too. the only good thing to happen was no blood was drawn today!! yea...:)
lol...i know how you feel about the "mom" thing. When we first got Cubbie my skin would crawl everytime someone (groomer, trainer, vet) called me "mom". Cubbie's mom had 4 legs and fur and I don't :) If I wanted to be called "mom" I would have had a baby :) Now, I have finally gotten over my "issues" and can just ignore it.
It is frustrating to come on here and see all these pictures of people's 2 doodles laying curled up next to each other. I want that to happen in my house, but the best I can get is putting them in a down stay next to each other, but I think that is cheating :)
