Hi everyone...so incredible how much good our doodles do. I am trying to pull together an invent in the Albany, NY area regarding children reading to doodles. Are there any members in this area that might be willing to participate. At this point, I think doodles will be required to be certified with some organization. Thanks!

Hi everyone. Just joining the group and so happy to see so many Doodles that are doing therapy. Scooby and I were coordinators of a volunteer event that our Pet Therapy group participated in and there were 3 Doodle among the 15 teams that represented our group for the afternoon. They were, of course, the most well behaved and and got the most attention...Scooby was the hit of the day because of his laid back nature and charm!

I've been quite impressed with the number of doodles doing therapy dog work. Yesterday I went on a visit to a nursing home/rehab facility with another doodle. It was fun going room to room with everyone wondering if our dogs were related. I felt sorry for the third dog visiting with us - since our two big doodles seemed to draw quite a bit of attention. Wouldn't it be funny having an all doodle team?

Hi everyone,
I am also a nurse who takes Mali out for her therapy sessions. I just want others to know that many places that I've gone to have pretty strict requirements to get it. If you lead a clean healhty life, it's no problem, lol.Just to warn you, to get in may take some time to get through the door to actually do your volunteering. . Some examples... The hospital where I work requires a background check and has some orientation for volunteering. The local hospice has three 8 hour saturday training classes for their volunteers and you have paperwork to do after each visit. Their classes are usually quarterly. The Safe Next area for abused women and children require similar training, it's held only quarterly and had about 36 hours of training. If you have a full time job it does make it difficult to make it into some training sessions. For the Assisted living place they require fingerprints, (done at their expense) and sometimes drug testing. And of course all the places had paperwork and an interview process. All of this information is for Las Vegas Nevada. I hope that helps. I was able to pass everything, but was a little disappointed at how long the process took. The rewards of doing the therapy and the smiles are sooooo worth it though.

Your words are so inspiring for therapy dog work. Hollywood is going for her CGC test on 2/15/09 and then continuing for a therapy dog. I'm a full time nurse and can't wait to take her to medical facilities and bring comfort to the patients! I hope it doesn't take her long to earn her "therapy dog" certification. Any helpful hints or suggestions?

Hi everyone!
My name is Kathy and I live in WI. My dog Oliver and I are a registered therapy dog team with Therapy Dogs Incorporated. Oliver is now 18 months old. He is very young but has done extremely well in a nursing home and a day care for people with early memory loss. Oliver can still act like such a puppy at home some times, but when we are visiting a facility he must sense what he needs to do. The nurses and residents just love him!! Oliver has brought such joy to others! Every time we leave after a visit, my heart is filled with a happiness that is hard to explain!!! If any of you are interested in doing volunteer therapy dog work-just do it!!! It is rewarding beyond words!! I am looking forward to reading about other people's experiences.

Here's a link to an article about a Goldendoodle Therapy dog team. Not sure if they're members or not but it's great to see the excitment our dogs produce!

Moses & Havey are both Therapy dogs. Moses passed both the Bright & Beautiful Therapy dog test and the Therapy Dog International test. However, I dropped out of Therapy dog International, because they will not allow you to belong to 2 groups.Havaey is Bright & Beautiful certified. Moses has been during Therapy work for about 19 months and Havey about 7 months.
We have a few regular places that I visit ... 2 ARC group homes and a respite program for kids with severe disabilities. Then I also do visits with other Bright & Beautiful teams for Library 'Reading to the Dogs' programs , special school programs and other events. Since I work full time as a social worker I can only do our visits on nights and weekends. The Bright & Beautiful Therapy dog organization is very active in Monmouth County and I guess all of New Jersey ... so there can be much to do if interested.
I f anyone in Monmouth County is interested in Bright & Beautiful Therapy dog training classes let me know and
I can provide information.
