Oh, and I forgot to mention that Dexter LOVES LOVES LOVES to stick his head out the window when we're driving. :-)

So we haven't done a ton of traveling with Dexter, mostly just around town and to our familie's houses. We'd like to do more and would love to hear about pet-friendly hotels and other places around California. We did make a trip down to my parents house and stayed in a hotel for a night WITH Dexter. Too funny. Here he is on the hotel bed! ;-)

Mackinaw Island, MI is really pet-friendly overall, and Mission Point Resort allows dogs. Great vacation with a doodle!

Amelia Island is off the coast of Jacksonville, by the way.

Linda - what about renting a place on Amelia Island? My inlaws live there and they are dog friendly on the Fernandina Beach side, but NOT on the Plantation. If you research on VRBO or something, they will be specific about Plantation vs. other beach. The other beach is better anyway - less populated and more quant. There are some BIG houses there....

We have a family vacation planned for July in St. George Island, FL. Getting concerned about the oil spill and started looking for places on the Atlantic. Any suggestion? Haven't found many places that cover all of our required amenities: besides dog friendly, must also be kid friendly, pool, walking distance to beach, at least 4 bdrms (house preferably) or villa where we could be near each other.

Diana, where in Florida are you going? We have traveled all over the country with Murphy and he loved it. No problems at all. Except watch for those stickers in grassy road side areas especially in the south.

Diane, we took our two to Florida (from Ohio) and drove straight through. We stopped every couple of hours also. I think it took about 20 hours on the way down and 24 on the way back. On the way down we stopped for about an hour at a dog park in Georgia and let the dogs blow off some steam. They did very well on the trip. We were only in Florida for a little over a week during the Christmas holidays. We went to the dog beach almost every day we were there and had a blast. Good luck on your trip and enjoy your month in Florida!

Taking Molly to Florida for a month long vacation. The trip will take a few days but she loves to ride in the car so I hope it will be uneventful. We stop every 2-3 hrs. for a quick pitstop and will let her romp a bit then. The first day is a 12 hr. trip...ahhh!
