Crazy Jumpers!

I'm wondering if there are any doodle owners out there who have "jumping doodle" problems. My two are a handful when company comes. It's bad whether the company is someone they know or not. They are just so excited to greet anyone that it's a three ring circus whenever someone comes to visit. A knock on the door sends them into excited euphoria every time, and the two of them get each other going. Even when my husband and I each hold one, it's a challenge until they calm down. One jumping… Continue

Willson's 2 month Birthday!

On Friday August 1st was Willson's 8 week old birthday! We celebrated with a visit to our neighbor's house to play with their chocolate lab, Abby. Willson had a great time running around on the grass. We only stayed for a short time, but then when we got back to our house it was POOL TIME! I went to the store the other day and bought a baby pool so he would be able to play in it. He absolutely LOVES his pool! He was in the pool and and out, he had his favorite little football squeaky toy with… Continue

Training Issues

I started obedience training Hannah when she was about 5 months old. She started out great, in fact she was exceptional, after puppy classes were over we moved on to the next stage. Hannah wound up being the only pup finishing two sets of classes using a flat collar, and than we started trying to train her for Rally O. All of a sudden she started acting disinterested and actually refusing to do what you asked her to do. These are all things like sit and stay, watch me, down, she has done before… Continue

Breeders with Puppies available...

Hello everyone,

I am a breeder and I have some lovely puppies available and so I thought it might be a good idea for breeders and potential puppy buyers alike to have a place to announce available puppies or rehomes. Let's try to keep this blog alive! (I think that I will cross post this on the forums too.)

I am Jacque Reynolds from northern California. We have 14 week old F1B small standard, Goldendoodle pups...black, some with white markings...they are really lovely… Continue

Rosco and Thule's Friday Play Date....

Friday, early evening, I took Rosco and Thule to a friend's house for a little play date with her Great Dane, Zorro

and Amaya the Moodle (mutt x poodle cross)

Thule was a bit snarky with poor young Zorro and vehemently turned down every one of his attempts to play

But he seemed to think even her rejections were kinda fun--at least she wasn't (gasp)… Continue

Lost in the Woods

So, it appears that unbelievably, many Doodlers out there are unaware of my poor Finny's recent plight; being Lost in the Woods for 6 hours. Yes, you read that correctly. My poor dog was Lost in the Coyote Ridden Woods for 6 whole hours. And I think everyone needs to know about it:

A few weeks back we interviewed prospective dog walkers to take Finn out walking with a little buddy pack. We don't need to have him professionally walked, we just thought he might enjoy the social aspect.… Continue

My Incredibly Shrinking Momma (By Rosco P. Canine)

When I went in search for a momma I told my breeder I wanted a standard sized, BIG MOMMA!

And when I first got her...she was indeed quite LARGE

Six weeks later I began to think that perhaps my breeder had overestimated her size potential

Now I'm starting to think my breeder was really a Momma Mill and my tiny mother may have come from dwarf lineage!

(I mean really...does she… Continue

WORKING DOODLES!

Some of you know that Nick is a therapy dog and makes visits to retirement homes. We started a regular gig at one of the Fresno children's library branches yesterday....kids reading to dogs. Nick was a huge hit..and it was fun for me, too (as a former reading teacher!)...almost all the adults commented on how calm and mannered she was - none had ever seen a GD before, and I think they were impressed with doodles!

The librarian made posters and had them all over the library:…

Doodles vs. Goats: Same breed?

This weekend I was a goat sitter. However, the goats remained at their house, and I remained at mine. My job was mainly to be their waitress.

So let me take you on a journey of a day in the life of a goat sitter:

Here we arrive at the home of the goats...

Gettin' closer to their habitat...

This is Frosty the Goat, doing what goats do...…

Three Dog Night

It's amazing how 3 dogs can rule your life. They all were in the bed this morning. Thank goodness we have a king size bed. Jack was in the center. Ginger was across my legs and Cody, against my back. I couldn't move. So much for sleeping in!

Potential Health Problems in Doodles and Why Choosing a Breeder Carefully is Critical.

Hybrid Vigor?

Some of you may have read claims that mixed breed dogs are "healthier" than pure breeds because of "hybrid vigor" that results when two different breeds (and their greater genetic variance) are combined. However, I've seen this "hybrid vigor" idea abused by those who want freedom to throw any breeds together and call it "healthier." The truth is that any potential "hybrid vigor" is merely a potential benefit, not a guaranteed benefit of buying/adopting a mixed… Continue
