Hi All,
It has been so gratifying to witness the spontaneous collaboration that is taking place between the for-profit sector, including corporations such as Wag.com and others, who have partnered with the non-profit sector to provide support for pets and their owners who have been devastated by the hurricane. Cesear Milan, however, who has made a fortune by marketing his training approach and products, seems to be absent in donating any support to non-profits providing essential and…

It snowed last night, and although it's not deep, Darwin is in heaven! Luckily we had had him cut shorter last week, the snowballs in his fur weren't bad at all. What do you think of his haircut?…

What a crazy few days its been! Oscar came home Tuesday and man-oh-man, how could I have forgotten how frustrating, anxiety inducing and tiring POTTY TRAINING is! I'm certain Lucy was no easier, but its funny how you just seem to forget the parts of puppy raising that weren't AT ALL fun. I must go outside 2 dozen times a day, all hours of the day and night. Most of the time we just stand out there, Oscar staring at me, or biting at leaves, or laying down in the pea gravel. How JOYOUS when…

I have been mostly MIA lately, the reason? Well suffice to say it has something to do with a leash, a dog and a DH that didn't use his head.
We were out hiking on a nice afternoon 2 weeks ago this past Sunday. We were in the woods, I was holding Daisy, DH was NOT thinking and went off the path and tried to pick up a very large fallen limb, Daisy did not see him, only the branch and took off like a bat out of he_ _! Remember who was holding the leash? That's right, a 70lb doodle on the…

Hi all,
We've been out of the loop for a while because we live in Lower Manhattan and were evacuated for almost a week. Fortunately, my son has a home in Park Slope, Brooklyn and we stayed with him and his family. During that time, Paz and I worked at an evacuation center, assisting victims. Paz was such a huge hit, with the adults as well as the children. Paz lumbered up to one little boy who had been crying; the child immediately stopped crying, looked at Paz and said "Wow, I…

This is the hardest thing I have had to do...New Jersey Doodles will know my "Doodlenot" Woody. He would go to the doodle romps he is a golden lab mix just missing the poodle but, we did not want to leave him out.. He is now 16 and a half. His health is failing fast. In July our vet told us maybe 3 months if we were lucky and then he lives on morphine because of the pain.…

Yesterday was one of those days. I am going to out myself as the worst dog trainer ever in the history of dog trainers. Something is happening with my Vern. It all started with the lifting his leg to pee incident. I have noticed he now likes to go over the spot where Fudge goes and today, for the first time ever, he backpedaled after he went to cover the spot. Unfortunately, since it was his first time, his timing was a little off and he almost did a face plant in the process. …

Yesterday, November 7th, marked seven months for the 'ole Milt. It is hard to believe that we have been raising this boy since June. He's our main dependent, and depend on us he does. When you see a dog every day, morning and night, it can be a little difficult to tell how much he has grown. Well, here are some telltale signs that the Milt is turning into a "young dog" and leaving "puppyhood" behind.
1. At the vet today, for Milton's monthly heart worm pill, he hopped up for…

Surely by now you cannot be surprised when I tell you both Harley and Leo are NOT camera shy…
They’ve actually become theatrical with it. Harley is so conditioned, he seems to “doodle kiss” his friends every time he sees the camera lens……

More often than not, I win our fights over anything and everything, and believe me we are quite passionate when it comes to arguing. One major battle I have lost at present, however, is the Milton in the bed. Despite my recent post when countless readers told us to give in and let Milt up, Jeff still bluntly refuses. He is resolute that our doodle is just too much of a dirty dog to be a cuddle bunny in bed.
This has left me with no other option than to join Milt down in…

We're getting a new puppy. Oscar, a multi-gen standard labradoodle (the smallest male of the litter). A new puppy really wasn't on our radar at all, not until my husband clicked on Lucy's breeder's website and saw she had a new litter of puppies (due to her family obligations, she hasn't had a litter in years). Our worlds revolve around Lucy and we think she's the most incredibly smart and wonderfully tempered dog on the planet. We knew the product her breeder puts out, so all of a sudden…

The Milt has some pretty big news to announce. He is excited, nervous, and a little bit bashful all rolled into one. How can this be? Well, Milton is a Calendar Dog! He was selected to be Mr. May (along with two other dogs) in the Doodle Kisses's Lotsa Doodles Calendar. This was the money shot taken by Alicia (aliciaskinner.com):…

I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween! This was Duncan's first, and he handled the costume, trick-or-treaters, and continuous knocking at the door very well.
Oh, and he was an airplane!

When the polls open on Election Day, every citizen over the age of 18 will be able to cast a vote.
It is a right we take for granted, one that defines our nation as a democracy. But universal suffrage — letting everyone vote — did not appear overnight with the ratification of our Constitution.
Two hundred years ago, only…

Wow, she has been home one week. In some ways it seems like she has been here forever and in some ways the week just flew. She has gotten big. It seems like she is growing in leaps and bounds day by day. We went from an unsure pup touching carpet for the first time to a crazy doodle running from room to room and leaving teeth marks all over my hands. What happened.
I thought I was prepared, after all I read every discussion on DK that was posted about new puppies. I…

Skylar's play date...
When we walked in she was very aggressive to the other dogs, barking growling, nipping but no contact. Thank God for no contact. She was the largest dod in the room. I heard some other owners say "I don't want that dog near mine"
The atendent told me to let her off the leach. I did but was very aprehensive. After a bit of time with Skylar staying by my side she started to venture out and come back. Each venture lasted a bit longer. Soon she was playing…

Here is another backlog post:
Recently we met a couple of good friends of ours out at dinner. They brought their two terriers, Sam & Eddie, and, of course, the Milt joined us as well. Upon our arrival, our friends got quite a chuckle out of the big backpack that Jeff wore to dinner, referring to it as our "baby bag."…

Jeff was remiss to post on DK while I was in California. If you do not read my blog, www.goldilocksandherdoodle.com, here is what you missed! (By the way, the trip was fun, but I am SO happy to be back home with my dood.)
Every year our friends, Alan and Alicia (the photography couple!), throw a huge Halloween bash at their house!…

Recently, I have diagnosed myself with a disorder called Obsessive Compulsive Forgetfulness. This is a condition that occurs in many women around menopause age and people with this disorder have unwanted and recurring thoughts that compel them to search out things daily that they have misplaced. Every day, I spend at least one hour searching for…
