We have had dogs before but never a puppy (11 month old male) with so much energy.

He isn't a barker and isn't destructive or anything negative but active 14 hours  day and

loves to run and visit other dogs, all sizes and kinds.  What a big smile he has for

ever one and every thing.

Do your Doodles have all this energy and friendly attitude?

I try to take Quincy to Doggie Day Care to let him run around all day so he is settled the next day or two!

Tara was like your doodle when she was that age. But around 18 mos. old she grew up and became a couch potato. Now she throws the ball and wants me to retrieve it. :)  She still has her "love everybody" attitude though but she isn't nearly as active. I think it really varies from dog to dog.  One DK'er with 2 doodles has one very active, high energy dog and one couch potato and they are close to the same age.  Both are sweethearts though.

Zoe was like that too...HIGH energy but now she really is a couch potato!

Brisby loves all humans and dogs. Jake loves all humans and loves to play with dogs but is submissive to them. Both play HARD when the play and the plop down and rest. But they do like to play a lot. Brisby is 11 months, Jake is 8 months.

If you want to change it up a bit keep in mind mental stimulation can tire them out too. Do some new training or a new trick. Stuff a kong or get some dog "puzzles" from the pet store. Of you have the sit/stay down put pup in it and hide treats around your house for him/her to find.

But if you are just asking and are curious, yes both at my house love playing, love people and will go until they drop. At that point they are 65 lb and 42lb "lapdog" cuddle muffins. ;)
My 2 (13mos. and 4 yrs.) have close to 10x more energy in the late afternoon/evening hours. Earlier in the day they're pretty sedate and napping. Although they're very different in temperament, they have this in common. Both love people, but the younger one enjoys other dogs (all kinds) more than the older one. I agree, I think it has a lot to do with the individual dog.
Judy, your description could probably be used word for word for about 9000 of the 10,000 doodles on this site. They vary in personalities, but I think most will say that at one time or another, their doodle was pretty high energy. Generally they require a lot of exercise and playtime for the first year or so. But it does seem that they tend to settle down by two years old. This is a generalization and there are many exception to this, but just know that it sounds like you have a pretty normal doodle puppy!

yes, my Salvador usually has a TON of energy (he's 8 months old).  I take him to doggy daycamp once a week and try to take him to the dog park to run out some energy for 20-60 minutes about 3-4 days a week. Other days I try to do a lot more mental things with him.  One day when it was rainy I made him sit and stay for like 20 minutes when he had some crazy puppy energy.  After I let him go (after a lot of redirecting) he passed right out!

Yep. Our ALD has never settled down and he is three years old.  Energy, energy, and energy and he loves everyone.  Our big problem is jumping.  He likes to jump on everyone he meets.  He knows "off" and I have to do the "sit" and "stay" when anyone comes to the door.  I especially worry about my 97-yr-old mother.  He seems to realize now that she is off limits, but it has been a challenge.

Its funny...today, while pretty much playing fetch with myself i started to wonder, "where is the retriever gene in this here doodle girl". I throw the ball...she wanders away. Sheesh. But every now and then she takes off and sprints around the yard at high speed taking turns at what looks like 50 mph, lol. Then, back to nothing. So i guess she has both high energy and then a lack there of!

Our doodles don't have that kind of energy, but our Springer Spaniel does. Our Springer will be 10 in a couple of weeks! He has NEVER slowed down.  I don't think this is the norm for dogs though.

What great replies!  Thanks.  We do love our guy so much and if the only problem we

have is energy and a great personality we are indeed blessed just like so many of you.

Love reading your comments.

Darwin is super friendly and loves to play, but he definitely doesn't have a lot of energy. If he takes a walk or plays with a dog for a few minutes (usually 15-30 is his limit) then he will be pooped for the rest of the day!
