Celebrating 3 years! I know I shouldn't be in Puppy Madness any more because Hurley is 3 years old but I love reading about all the puppies and enjoy seeing the pictures of them.
Something I have wanted to do since Hurley turned 3 was to celebrate his age by displaying pictures of Hurley at each birthday so I hope you don't mind if I do that.
Hurley has been such a wonderful blessing addition to our family. He is my friend, my confidant, my joy, my positive energy. Simply put: He is my furry child.
He loves to snuggle in the throw pillows on the bed and sometimes, even at 3 years, he is not easy to see. Hurley weighs about 55 lbs and is an multi gen ALD. He loves to watch TV. Quite the pastime for him. He goes after any animal on the TV screen. And when he cannot smell or touch them he races out side to see if he can find the animal(s) going by, Then he comes back into the house and gives me this, 'i am confused where did they go?' look.
He lays across his ottoman or he sits on top of it to watch TV.
He is truly a water dog!!! Cannot keep him out of a pool or pond no matter the temperature. He has his two doodle buddies that he plays with often so I thought I would include a picture of the three of them shortly after being groomed.
So I hope I haven't bored anyone but I am very proud of my beautiful four legged child.
Hurley at 3 years, at 1 & 2 years and at 3 months.
Ruffie guarding the front door with his attack hedgehog.
He is now 6 or 7 months old and still 20 pounds.
Ahhh, Ruby is very sweet! Oscar was terrible about picking things up outside, too. I can commiserate! It does get better with time and teaching the 'Leave it' command, but even today, with Oscar over 2 yrs old, he sometimes will pick something up and carry it. Once, upon reaching home after a walk, we pulled a large, matted old wad of paper out of his mouth. He'd just picked it up somewhere along our walk and proudly carried it home!
Yes, we think Ruby is perfect---and we hope all puppy owners feel the same way.
Here is our problem with Ruby---she puts everything outdoors into her mouth: a leaf! a stick! bark! tissue!
I know she is exploring the world with her mouth. In the house she is pretty good, but outdoors when we are walking with her it is constant. Lately I've started saying "No leaves." "No bark." While gently pulling on her leash, this seems to help. But is has been a little scary, I fished many chunks of bark, pieces of plastic, leave stems...out of her mouth.
Just thought it was only fair to put this out there so you know Ruby isn't a goody two shoes [but we still think she is perfect].
When they are a rescue puppy, age is an unknown but only by a month or two - not really important in the scheme of things, but frustrating for those of us who want absolutes.
My son's pup was maybe 3 months old when he rescued him last March. The determination was made because he had all his baby teeth and didn't began loosing them until the next month or two. As for his growth, he is still growing and he supposedly is a year. He is a standard and much bigger than was predicted by his weight/age.
We were told that my rescue was 2 years old when we got him. He was definitely a young adult but he could be a year older. This might make a difference as he ages, but not much.
My dd just rescued a little dog who's age was estimated as between 6 - 9 years! Now this could make a real difference in expectations for health and treatments.
So . . . . it is all relative.
