I'm wondering - doing I have to wake the dog up to bring him outside in the middle of the night if he's not waking on his own? Last night I took him out at 11pm and 4:30 am. He did pee at the 4:30 am trip, but it was me that woke him to go. What do you think?
Congrats, Mary-E.
Aw Mary-E, he is adorable. Cute name.
Very precious.
We finally made a decision today about which puppy to bring home in two weeks…the kids have named him Zoomer
Our three dogs eat twice a day (more often when they were pups). Some pups you can leave food on the floor which some vets recommend. I could do that with two of our three dogs. The third I'm afraid would continue to eat. Anyway, I feed the two all they can eat twice a day. The puggle I feed a bowl full. In the winter if he puts on weight I cut back slightly. Doesn't take long for them to adjust. Likewise if they are really active and he gets thinner I add food. Granted doodles are harder to determine their weight with the heavy fur. I just pet her and tell that way. So two all they want to eat and the third measured amount but adjust if they gain or lose weight.
Feeding guidelines vary widely from pet food brands, to specific formulas within a brand. You really can't reliably go by the amount anyone else is feeding their puppy, without knowing the brand and line within the brand that they're feeding. Even then it varies depending on activity level and overall body condition of the puppy. Your best bet for feeding amounts is on the dog food bag itself. There's typically a range to feed. Start off in the middle of the range and adjust for activity level. Your vet would be the best judge of body condition and if the puppy is too thin or too plump. I strongly suggest you join the Food Group here on Doodlekisses. Karen is our resident food expert.
Marlene: That's what we feed our puppy, Angus. He's 16 weeks and probably weighs close to Brewster. That is also what our vet said and is what it says to feel the pup on the bag. I would just check what it says on the bag of food you're using. From what I understand, it can vary depending on the nutritional ratios included in the food you're using. There's lots more helpful information in The Food Group as well, so you may want to do a quick search in that group - I was directed to do the same and it was quite helpful for me!
Hi Everyone! I have a new little multigen Golden Doodle, named Brewster. He is 17 weeks old and weighs about 28 lbs. My question is....How much should he be eating? I feed him 3/4 cup 3 times a day? is this too much...too little? He is always ready to eat...food is his motivator. He is very receptive to learning with food as his reward. I just do not want to over feed him!
Kate has been the easiest dog to train. She was 17 weeks when we got her and had the benefit of older siblings to watch. They occasionally eat things outside and therefore have trouble at night. They don't wake me up unless you call staring at me. I am going to put a bell up because Foxy was trained with one to go out and I think they will learn quickly.
