Diane, Congratulations on the new puppy! I can tell you that what worked for me as far as getting a good picture is putting them in a basket of some sort and putting a few treats in there. My MIL little dog has not learned ANY commands because they don't teach her (she's a Morkiepoo) so I had to work my brain to get a good pic. I had a big basket and filled it with a blanket and set her in. gave her a treat or two and then when she was done (and looking for more) I got her to look at me for a pic. It works best if there are two of you. One to stand close and give a treat and the other behind the camera. Good Luck!
Finally I was able to get Sidney so tired out that I could get a picture of the two of them together. Yea. Still having issues getting Sidney trained to do his business outside. I take him out every few hours and if he goes I praise him. He isn't interested in the praise. His attention has already moved on to something else so he looks at me like "So what is that praise about. I have other things on my mind."
You are off to a great start with Sidney.
Last night I actually got to sleep through the night. Yea! Sidney is doing fine with the kennel. At meal time I did start putting his food right inside the crate door so he would be more comfortable with the kennel.
Hurley and Sidney started playing together a couple of days ago. Hurley actually adjusting to the new pup rather quickly. Yea!
I think someone commented on whether the harmony changed with the addition of the new pup. Simply put YUP! It changed. Over time the harmony will return. It will be different than it was with one doddle in the house but it will happen.
Diane, I am so glad Sidney is making progress. EJ, Dante is adorable.
You are braver than I am. Very cute!!!
Thought I would get back with a status on how Sidney is doing. Wish I could get a good picture of him to post. I would like to get one with Hurley and Sidney but Sidney is not one for sitting still very long.
Sidney needed a settling in period as Nancy mentioned. So I gave him time to adjust before starting kennel training. I based that on the obvious extreme trauma he experienced on his trip from So Carolina.
This morning I put him in the Kennel while I was doing house and caregiver (I am caregiver to my husband) tasks. Also, that is where I place his food when it is meal time. Additionally, I am using my excited voice and putting a few treats in the kennel when it is time for him to go in it. I left him in the kennel for about an hour and he fussed but he did not freak out. Yea. I did not let him out until he was quiet and he is on a leash when in the house except when he and Hurley are playing.
I am going to try the kennel tonight. That will be a milestone met if he can stay in all night and not fuss. And I am going to start the Kong with PB today.
The potty training is quite the challenge. When outside every slight sound freaks him and he won't go or he is into sniffing around the yard and he doesn't go. I am using the potty, potty words, good potty, etc. We are not outside long when it is a potty time but I take him out every hour. Also, Hurley does the bells when he wants to go out so am trying to get Sidney to do the same.
Anyway, thank you all for good advice!!!!!!
Thank you Some good ideas and I will give them a try.
