Diane,

This might just be a settling in period and once he learns that the crate is part of his routine, he might be fine with no extra interventions.

Try a couple of different places for the crate - either where your husband is most of the time  or away from the action - whichever is opposite of where it currently is placed. Another suggestion to try is to cover the crate to make it more den-like. Possible comfort items: a snuggle puppy, a piece of cloth that smells like you in the crate, Frozen puppy Kong filled with Kibble and plain, unflavored yogurt.

Lorry, that would be a good idea if the two dogs were not setting their boundaries, so to speak.   Plus Hurley is big so the two would not fit in the wire kennel.

Thank you though.  I appreciate the suggestion

Try putting them both in the same crate...That worked for me when I had to take my puggle and the Chihuahua to my cousins house and they both got along fine in the crate but the Chihuahua would not let the puggle near her when they were free to roam the house.

Well it didn't take long after adding a new pup to our family that I have a question. Hurley was not a barker when put in his kennel. Sidney is frantic and barking like crazy. I put him in the wire kennel when I left the house this morning. My husband is home but has a neurological condition so he can not manage a puppy until the puppy is trained. He called to tell me sidney will not stop barking.
I ignore Sidney when he barks so he is not rewarded.
Any suggestions on how to stop the barking? Help!

Well, we took the plunge and brought another doodle into our home.
Sidney
Male
Australian multi gen labradoodle
Small standard
Wavy fleece
9 months old
We named him Sidney because he is an ALD and we spent a few days in Sidney several years ago
Sidney and Hurley are tolerating each other but not playing yet. This is Sidney's second full day with us. Hurley is our 5 year old ALD. Both are from the same breeder.
I'll have to get a picture posted of him and I'll probably have plenty of questions on being a two doddle family.

I have had my Clyde who is 5 month ,going on 2 weeks He is adapting well to a new home as well as to a brother Rat terrier mix . I'm working on stopping rough housing in house between the two but they seem to love each other, Buddy the terrier is only 11 months.

My problem so far is going to potty. It seems like Clyde doesn't empty bladder all the way I'm taking him out every hr when not in crate. I pick u water after feedings. Any suggestions?

I was very lucky Turbo  does not have the prey instinct. He has never killed a toy. I mouths them but does not destroy them. I do use the everlasting ball and Yak bones for his chewing satisfaction. He has the rope toys and when they get frayed on the edges I cut the long stings off.
