Hi Connie! Puppies are voracious chewers. We assume anything within reach is fair game until they learn what is appropriate to chew on and control access accordingly. A defined play space is a great technique that we use also when we can't watch them closely. To protect the floors underneath we bought a linoleum remnant at HD or Lowe's for about $20. Just make sure the edges are outside of reach and it should work. For toys we avoid the rope toys as they're always pulling the strings out and eating them. Eating the strings also makes me worry that it will get wrapped around some component of the digestive system and cause issues. Don't worry too much though. Just watch the poo for a few days to make sure all is working properly. I'm guessing you'll see the foam there too. :-). Our dogs destroy stuffed toys quickly too but love playing with what we refer to as the toy carcass after so all is not lost. We also use elk antlers as a solution to the dog's need to chew. We also love the durability of jw brand dog toys as do the dogs. Hope this helps!

Okay, so my new goldendoodle puppy that I got about three weeks ago is starting to chew. ALOT. And he has very strong teeth, so he keeps wrecking every toy we brought him.
Recently we got a rubber chew toy with stings on the end. Is it okay for him to accidentally swallow a few peices of thread because he broke the string and swallowed a bit.
Also, we placed a foam board under his little play area so the bars wouldn't scratch the floor, and he started ripping tiny chunks of it off. I don't know if he swallowed it, but do I have to take him to the vet if he eats a millimeter long piece of foam?
Thank you for the help!

Welcome!  We have had Bell or Bernedoodle three weeks now and right now I am so glad I have a crate to send her to.  She is going on twelve weeks old and tonight I want to ask myself why did I do this.  Just remember that there will be wonderful days too.  I will try to write more things when I can think better and I am learning all over again.  It has been nine years since we have had a puppy in this house.  Hold on it is a worthwhile adventure.

Hi everyone! I haven't been very active- in fact, I haven're really posted since Maxwell, whos is almost 5 years old, was a puppy!
We are planning to bring a NEW goldendoodle home tomorrow! Winnie will be joining our family! I am so excited, but I am sure with all the new puppy-ness in the house I will have tons of questions and will need to vent out my frustrations! LOL
Maxwell was so easy to potty train. We had him for 2 weeks and he never went in the house again... still hasn't! He's a good boy, but the puppy stage was trying (just not the house breaking)! LOL

Are there any tips. advice to help make WInnie's transition smoother?

Kathy, you and Belle Star are welcome. We have some other members with Berniedoodles.

I hope all doodles are welcome.  I have an 11 week old Bernedoodle named Bell Star.  She already can "high five" and she is starting to bark on command.  She sits and is pretty good at walking on the leash.  She will be trained to be my service dog.  She will be replacing my current service dog that we are retiring.  I will try to get a picture posted with this message.
