We are just beginning to feed raw and Jamaica had her first all raw chicken dinner tonight. It went well!

Richard: do you happen to know exactly what is in the NV beef patties? How are they different from hamburger patties?

Thanks.

Holly and I have been with doodlekisses for two and a half years now, since we first got our girl from Heather Goines of Cheyenne Valley Kennels in Texas. But, we have just joined the Raw Food Group. Holly is an absolutely wonderful doodle but her digestive system is rather sensitive.

We have found that natures variety beef patties are the best for her. She keeps a great weight, her coat looks wonderful and best of all - no soft or runny stools.

No don't use a sledge hammer! The bones will splinter and that will be bad. Get her some ribs! They are on sale all the time! Let's ask what kind of bones others give their dogs. Ozzie is not interested in the bigger bones, except to bury them and dig them up hours later to bring in the house!

Good point, Lucy. Perhaps I can break them up with my little sledge hammer..... My local Safeway (only grocery shop in town) does not offer a great variety, so we may have to start shopping some place else.

Hi Vicky, Be careful with the big hard bones, such as knuckle bones. The doggies can break teeth on them! You will get the same tooth cleaning effect with raw meaty bones such as ribs, chicken backs, etc. More later!

Thank-you, Laura & Ruby. I will look for the book. Jamaica just [very enthusiastically] polished off a soup bone, so I think we're off to a good start!

Looks like there is a lot of great information here.

Hi Vicky,
There is a great book called Raw Dog Food by Carina Beth MacDonald, it's what I used as a basis how to feed them. Though I don't do her "veggie slop", I do use vegetables finely minced. I also give Ruby cooked food-- we just don't do kibble as I think Ruby's allergic to grains.

Hello! Just wanted to introduce ourselves. I am Vicky and this is Jamaica, my almost-4-year-old GD.

We have been on the Doodle Zoo for some time and are now seriously ready to begin feeding raw and so are researching.

I hope to have the time to read all of your posts pertaining to this. Thanks for the info!

No need to remove the skin for Angus - in fact, he loves it-- without adverse affects. Although there are no salmon here in Mexico, in Texas or on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, I am concerned whether or not the fluke that lives in salmon also resides within other fish--and whether or not the bones are a problem. I have seen photos of dogs with a whole raw fish in their mouth...

I don't know. I think it depends upon the water in which the fish swim. You should google the specific fish or else ask your vet.
