My daughter is feeding her three dogs kibble but supplements that with a montage of Raw Beef Liver. Ground Organic Beef, Chard, Carrots, and Apples, all processed in a Cuisinart. The dogs seem to be doing well on it but, it is pretty gross for me. I am suprised that my darling little daughter who would not touch a worm when she was a child can work with the bloody liver.
Andrea, thanks for the info about the other yahoo group.
Will definitely check it out.
Agree with Kaytlin that the Raw Feed group in Yahoo is very difficult to get information. The one I prefer is in Raw Feeding (RF) Group in Facebook.
Oh, how rude of me...haven't introduced myself yet.
Hi I'm Kimmy from Bangkok, Thailand. I have an 8 month old labradoodle name Chewie. He was on BARF diet with the breeder but I switched him to prey model raw when I got him 5 months ago. Chewie's my first dog on RF, so I'm a relative newbie but I think it's th perfect diet for dogs. His coat is beautiful, white teeth and no doggy ordour.
Glad to join DK and to find this group :)

Hi Tessa & me!
I used Feed This as well, while I lived in CA... and LOVED it! It sounds like they've gotten bigger from when I left- it was still a relatively small very local Sonoma County product. I was able to completely customize a diet for Napa. I didn't agree with the portion they said I should feed Napa, so they gave me more food. They also like to have a "fasting day", which I didn't do either, so they included more food for me.
If I remember correctly, you could also buy it from a store. I wouldn't suggest doing that. It was less expensive to have it delivered to me than it was to buy it from the store (mark-up, packaging cost, shipping costs, etc.).
The rule of thumb for raw is between 2 and 3% of the dog's ideal "final" body-weight. For a puppy, it's definitely 3%. I was able to get away with feeding Napa 3% until just recently when he turned 4 and is less active than he was as a puppy. But, I would really suggest calling Feed This and discussing with them your needs and wants. They were very friendly with me, and were a great source of locally grown food! I wish they would ship to RI for me :-)
Best of luck finding your perfect mix though... I'm still hunting for one here!

Diane I can't help you with the amount of prepackaged food. I would question why switching between brands. I would think that if you are going to go with a commercial product the best thing is to find one you are happy with and stay with it. Most have a variety of protien sources so you pup can get variety. Like Lucy, i feed my dogs raw meat that comes from the grocery store, butcher....Unless you are really committed to using a packaged product, I would encourage you to consider just giving her raw meat, bones and organs. It is very easy and much cheaper. If you live in a metro area of almost any size you can probably find a raw feeders buying collective that will enable you to get better deals on meat and organs. I agree that wings are good, although I started Zach on bone in breast, which also worked very well. Good luck~
