Thanks for the idea Gina, I am going to try that, starting with find the kibble in the open.

To keep my two busy for a little while metally, we play a game called "Find".

I put them both in a sit stay at the front of the house, then I grab a handful of healthy kibble other than what they eat for dinner. I hide them all over the living room then call out to them to "come find". They come a runnin and have so much fun trying to find all the kibble before the other one gets to it.

We started out hiding mostly in the open, but now we make them sniff most of it out. I hide in under blankets and toys and inside crates. I'll put in on people if they are in the room, we have so much fun watching them hunt too :) It is also a good way to get some distance and out of site time in the sit, or down stay position. They know they have to wait until called to play........ If I find Kona has gone into a down instead of my sit I asked for I can now get her to sit with a command from a distance, which we were working on without much advancement until I started correcting her during this game. This weekend in obedience class she stood when she should have stayed seated and she listened immediately to my sit command from across the room :) I was so proud......

Give it a try, you will all enjoy it!

I take Lily (5 mos) for walks, but it seems to work better for us when she's not at her most energetic. When she is really high energy she jumps and pulls ahead and clearly wants to go fast. When she plays with her doodle and retriever friends, she is the fastest! It's a riot to watch. When she is completely hyper we play fetch and she still gets the zoomies a couple of times a day. Just recently we've started tossing a toy to her and she has caught it a few times. Walks go best sometime after mid afternoon for now. I'm hoping that as she matures and chills out a tad, we'll be able to walk in the mornings.

I can't jog or run anymore because of my knees but I'm hoping my husband will take her for runs when she's older. (Breeder said no sustained, repetitive exercise until 18 mos., I think?).

As far as mental fitness, I just ordered Lily this toy called a Hide-a-Bird from Amazon. They also come in Hide a Squirrel and a few other versions. They look very funny... you hide the little stuffed birds in the house and the dog is supposed to get them out. A friend here at DK in my breeder's group told me about it. They say their doodle loves it. Has anyone had any experience with these?

Samantha is learning walking on the treadmill. I hate to walk alone and my friends hate to walk at all so the treadmill is my way of her getting exercise. She would much prefer to be at the dog park, playing ball anywhere but with the weather not always great to be outdoors, we will have to rely on the treadmill until spring.
We are going to 2 classes now - 1 is an 'off leash' class outdoors at St Huberts Animal Shelter grounds - she LOVES it. On Sunday mornings, I take her to a Puppy Agility class. Not much physical exercise but a hours worth of mental stimulation. I love the fact that we both a learning how to use the equipment slowly and properly that come spring she can start a Beginners Class where there is more motion.

My favorite way to keep Bella fit is to train with her in obedience or agility. She works very hard to please me and she loves to challenges. After 45 minutes she is all pooped out. And of course any kind of fetch, with anything!!
