WELCOME TO THE FOOD GROUP - This group was started in an attempt to present well-researched and FACT-based information on the amazingly complicated and confusing issue of feeding our dogs. There are also many issues we would like to explore. We thought it would be helpful to put all of these questions, information, and feedback into one place here on DK where everyone can find it, contribute to it, ask questions, and learn together.
WE ASK THAT YOU NOT POST ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PRODUCTS FOR WHICH YOU RECEIVE ANY TYPE OF COMMISSION OR COMPENSATION. THANK YOU.
IMPORTANT-PLEASE READ "FOOD GROUP GUIDELINES" BEFORE STARTING A NEW DISCUSSION.

Tired of the same food

I think this is an easy question. I think Maggie is tired of her food. She's been eating the same thing for a long time, and she's kind of blah on it. She's my most reluctant eater anyway. She's eating Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Boost Beef. She's…Continue

Riley LOVES her kibble but she is really not super motivated by any treats we've tried.  We really haven't tried that many (just pure bites chicken and Zuke's minis, right now using a different Fromm kibble as treats) but we need a couple different…Continue

My turn to ask for advice. :)Jasper's digestive system has gotten a little bit "off" the past few weeks. I'm chalking it up to new and different treats, and too many of them; the treats were being dispensed very liberally during the weeks leading up…Continue

Let's repeat that, in case you think it's a typo.
This company insists that it is their Constitutional right to sell food products that contain Salmonella.
I'll stick with the companies that value my family's health and safety above profits.

Marion Nestle PhD is the foremost authority on nutrition, food manufacturing, and the relationship of politics to both . She receives no compensation from any company and her integrity is unassailable. Her information is 100% reliable.
Right in the article, she gives the reason that Answers is suing:

Incredible as it may seem, Lystin LLC, the parent of Answers Pet Foods which sells raw meat and poultry, is suing the FDA on Constitutional grounds to allow it to sell foods contaminated with Salmonella. Why?

According to this company, people should be able to feed their pets whatever they like, especially because its brands already carry this warning:

WARNING: NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION. THIS PRODUCT HAS NOT BEEN PASTEURIZED AND MAY CONTAIN HARMFUL BACTERIA.

You want to continue buying this pet food?  OK.  You were warned.

Personally, I’d find another brand more committed to the safety of dogs and their owners.

I feed Answers Pet Food and have no intention of stopping.  I would encourage people to go to Answers website and see why they are suing.  I think they are a wonderful company and fully transparent.

Pretty mind boggling, but also a great insight into how companies try to influence the FDA.
In the meantime, any raw feeders here will want to avoid buying anything from Answers Pet Foods.

Here's why:

Please do, it will be a fun photo op for you and I'm sure she will enjoy it...even if she doesn't know it's her birthday, lol.

I withdrew my question, making Riley a carrot/potato "cake" for her birthday tomorrow... will try to get pics before she devours it lol.

Another example of corporate influence on the FDA. Why would anyone trust their warnings about dog food at this point?

Yeah, those treat samples were the grain free ones that Jasper loves.

Comment by c zoomer on July 22, 2019 at 9:13pm

The samples were grain free-

elk sweet pumpkin and bacon sweet potato.  They are longish tubes in their shape and. 2" long

Sassy Sprinkles come in 4 flavors.  You can't tell what the jar size is or if they are sending one jar.  Turns out they send two, 2.75 Oz by weight each.  Looks like a spice jar of cinnamon sugar :)

Comment by Karen, Jasper and Jackdoodle on July 22, 2019 at 6:59pm

Which treats were the samples? Jasper got grainfree ones, the Campfire Cookout and the Sunday Pot Roast, he loved them!
