WELCOME TO THE FOOD GROUP - This group was started in an attempt to present well-researched and FACT-based information on the amazingly complicated and confusing issue of feeding our dogs. There are also many issues we would like to explore. We thought it would be helpful to put all of these questions, information, and feedback into one place here on DK where everyone can find it, contribute to it, ask questions, and learn together.
WE ASK THAT YOU NOT POST ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PRODUCTS FOR WHICH YOU RECEIVE ANY TYPE OF COMMISSION OR COMPENSATION. THANK YOU.
IMPORTANT-PLEASE READ "FOOD GROUP GUIDELINES" BEFORE STARTING A NEW DISCUSSION.

Tired of the same food

I think this is an easy question. I think Maggie is tired of her food. She's been eating the same thing for a long time, and she's kind of blah on it. She's my most reluctant eater anyway. She's eating Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Boost Beef. She's…Continue

Riley LOVES her kibble but she is really not super motivated by any treats we've tried.  We really haven't tried that many (just pure bites chicken and Zuke's minis, right now using a different Fromm kibble as treats) but we need a couple different…Continue

Do any other doodles eat watermelon? Jack discovered this last night and he was going nuts for it. Does anyone know if there is any problem with dogs eating watermelon?

Trina, if you would like to start a discussion about the food, you are welcome to do so. In fact, I intend to do it myself when I leave work. The food gets a 3 star rating from the Pet Food Analysis site, has mediocre ingredients and lots of filler, and is not recommended. If you look at the ingredients, this is definitely not a human grade food, unless you know any humans who eat beet pulp, lol.
I am personally not a fan of MLM schemes, but that is my own opinion. I do resent someone (not you) coming into a group that has been a labor of love for many of us for a long time, and has involved a lot of time & effort which has taken many of us away from our families & our own dogs, not bothering to read any of the info here, presenting us with a link to a website which we already know like the back of our hands, and attempting to sell something. At least when you buy in the store, you make the choice to go to the store voluntarily.

DK guidelines prohibit the promotion of any product for which the poster receives compensation. Here in The Food Group, we try to present factual information and relate our own experiences in order to help group members make informed choices.
It is never a good idea to base your choices about any product, particualrly one which affects health, on the claims of the person who stands to gain from the purchase. Independent information is always your safest bet.

Thanks Cheryl and Lynn, You were both right. She has been just fine! And has acclimated to staying with us beautfully relieving my mom of some the stress she was feeling about leaving her. Intersetingly, I belive I have convinced my
Mom to change her food from one ranked a one on dog food analysis.com. I know mom gives her cooked meet every once in awhile, so I asked her about fruits and veggies. The answer was " I do give any" I gave her a carrot and she LOVE it I can't wait to tell her. Thanks again!

Betsy, don't worry, the tiny onions they put on those burgers won't cause a problem. Anything in small quantities won't kill a big dog like that. Even chocolate in small quantities. What might cause the problem is if the dog is not used to having any food like that. But the most she might get is a little diarrhea for a day or two. I wouldn't worry.

My mom's standard poodle is staying with us and got ahold of my daughter's fast food burger, with tiny chopped up onions on it. Should I be concerned about her? She seems to be doing fine and this happened about two hours ago. I just don't know how much onion can be a problem. I have been doing so much research on what food to feed our puppy that I just don't know about the onions other than they aren't good for dogs. Thanks.

Like you tried to show me, lol. That's okay...I just got another lesson from a certain DK admin who is tired of me being a moron about this. My computer wasn't allowing the pop-up box, lol. I think I can do it now.

Karen, you can do a hyperlink here, too. Like I showed you. LINK to Chicken Soup discussion.
