WELCOME TO THE FOOD GROUP - This group was started in an attempt to present well-researched and FACT-based information on the amazingly complicated and confusing issue of feeding our dogs. There are also many issues we would like to explore. We thought it would be helpful to put all of these questions, information, and feedback into one place here on DK where everyone can find it, contribute to it, ask questions, and learn together.
WE ASK THAT YOU NOT POST ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PRODUCTS FOR WHICH YOU RECEIVE ANY TYPE OF COMMISSION OR COMPENSATION. THANK YOU.
IMPORTANT-PLEASE READ "FOOD GROUP GUIDELINES" BEFORE STARTING A NEW DISCUSSION.

Tired of the same food

Started by Stacy. Last reply by ks-man Aug 20, 2019. 38 Replies

I think this is an easy question. I think Maggie is tired of her food. She's been eating the same thing for a long time, and she's kind of blah on it. She's my most reluctant eater anyway. She's eating Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Boost Beef. She's…Continue

Your favorite high value treats?

Started by J and Riley (and Luna). Last reply by Kathy and Ruby Skye Aug 11, 2019. 24 Replies

Riley LOVES her kibble but she is really not super motivated by any treats we've tried.  We really haven't tried that many (just pure bites chicken and Zuke's minis, right now using a different Fromm kibble as treats) but we need a couple different…Continue

hi doodle friends,I have fed Ollie girl the Wellness LID Simple Salmon and Potato for over 2 years now, but recently couldn’t find anywhere the smaller bags, which I prefer. They’re more convenient, stay fresher, and we know the happy that comes…Continue

My turn to ask for advice. :)Jasper's digestive system has gotten a little bit "off" the past few weeks. I'm chalking it up to new and different treats, and too many of them; the treats were being dispensed very liberally during the weeks leading up…Continue

Hi all,  I'm a first-time puppy owner and recently got a 19 week old labradoodle named Ridge. He's the sweetest little guy and loves to play and snuggle. He's been on Life's Abundance since my parents brought him home in California at 12 weeks. He…Continue

Hi. Where can I find the recipe for Lynnes dog food? Thanks.

Mine's not sensitive either. Although, we feed him Fromm now, all the time, but switch up the flavors. When we were trying different brands, we'd add some enzymes into his food to help with the digestion, but he always did peretty well.
I guess we're lucky too. He'll eat anything. And I mean ANYTHING. :)

Are doodles super-sensitive to food, or have I just been luck in the past? My GR could eat ANYTHING and not have a problem. Yes, when switching him to new food he would have gas for a couple of days, but thats it! My 4 mo old GD has been on two diffent foods in the 9 weeks I have had him and did just fine on both of them.....

I don't use Nutro any more because of the information learned on this site. But we did have our other dogs on Nutro Lamb and Rice (apparently the old formula) for their entire lives. They never had gas or loose stools and ate exactly the amounts we fed them. It has been hard finding a new food that doesn't cause some digestive problems. After trying about 5 high quality kibbles, we realized that we need to stick to lamb. We have switched to Kirkland (Costco) lamb because it is rated well, has a reasonable price, and all three dogs eat it with only a little gas.

Sheri, we have had extensive conversations about Nutro...we do not recommend it, for many reasons. Please read "Commercial Foods...the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" for full information on Nutro, and every other food out there.
Also, you will get better responses to your questions if you post them in a discussion or start a discussion...see all the discussions above. This comment section doesn't lend itself to asking & answering questions.

Does anyone use Nutro Natural Choice? We recently switched to Nutro Natural Choice large breed puppy controlled growth formula. Just looking for feedback....

MERRICK:I felt that I should post to clear some information that was incorrect on the group. I wrote an email to Merrick yesterday...they do not have a rendering plant nor do they use any products from China. I wanted to check them out as they are my next choice for food for Riley. I have kept the email on file and, if anyone needs further information, I will be happy to give more details. Thanks!
