WELCOME TO THE FOOD GROUP - This group was started in an attempt to present well-researched and FACT-based information on the amazingly complicated and confusing issue of feeding our dogs. There are also many issues we would like to explore. We thought it would be helpful to put all of these questions, information, and feedback into one place here on DK where everyone can find it, contribute to it, ask questions, and learn together.
WE ASK THAT YOU NOT POST ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PRODUCTS FOR WHICH YOU RECEIVE ANY TYPE OF COMMISSION OR COMPENSATION. THANK YOU.
IMPORTANT-PLEASE READ "FOOD GROUP GUIDELINES" BEFORE STARTING A NEW DISCUSSION.

Tired of the same food

I think this is an easy question. I think Maggie is tired of her food. She's been eating the same thing for a long time, and she's kind of blah on it. She's my most reluctant eater anyway. She's eating Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Boost Beef. She's…Continue

Your favorite high value treats?

Riley LOVES her kibble but she is really not super motivated by any treats we've tried.  We really haven't tried that many (just pure bites chicken and Zuke's minis, right now using a different Fromm kibble as treats) but we need a couple different…Continue

Sorry if this seems redundant. Emma is now 8 months old (yesterday) and she's been on Innova Evo for about two months now (she had yeasty ears and the vet thought she might be allergic to grain). For the past week or so, I really can't get her interested in her food, though she seems hungry and wants to counter surf, cries at the cabinet, etc. She has been "off" the morning food for some time, but in the evening usually eats if I put a spoonful of wet food into the kibble. Now she doesn't even want that - last night didn't eat a thing. She's eating treats when offered but I'm thinking maybe of changing her food? She had a tummy upset last week (I gave her some marrow which I don't think she could tolerate well). She's finished her medication but her poops are still not great. I added pumpkin to her food but she wouldn't touch that either. Any suggestions? I keep hearing good things about Orijen. Also, her ears are fine now, so should I switch to a food that has some grain in it?

Freeze dried food toppers sprinkled on top helped my picky eaters, they come in different flavors. I also have the freeze dried raw medallions in different flavors from Natures Variety, but they are kinda expensive. Also even a tablespoon of canned food helps.

A message from Lee & Barbara Seidman to all members of The Food Group on DoodleKisses.com!

Our six month old Goldendoodle Lexi is a fussy eater. She looks at food and walks away. After several kibble products I put her on Orijen large breed puppy food . She still didn't eat well. At the suggestion of a friend we bought marrow bones from the butcher. We heat in the microwave for approximately one minute and then mix around a teaspoon of marrow with the kibble. We also mix some warm water with the juice in the container for a little gravy. I am talking a total of a tablespoon of both. Lexi goes wild for it.

Does any one have any tricks to getting your dog to eat there food?
Comment by Maybellie on December 2, 2008 at 12:53pm
My doodle is very picky about her food... I just can't get her to eat anything I choose for her. We recently switched her to puppy max found at our local hardware store. She was eating it fine for a week or two but now she just looks at it when I give it to her.

Nancy, can you copy and paste that email to me? Copy the link it gives you into a comment on my page or into a private message--it may fit better in the private message.

I have been reading this group for the last couple days. I want to change to a better kibble, but some of you said you alternate between different brands, but I can't even use the same brand and change flavors and Dakota has loose stools. Does that mean he has a sensitive tummy?

Thanks to the SUPER-MULTI-TALENTED Jacquie Yorke for doing as Adina suggested and fixing our text box. The girl can do ANYTHING!

Hey everybody--would you consider shrinking the photo above and instead including a portion of the message to new members ("READ THIS FIRST") along with a link to the full message? Otherwise, I'm afraid the announcement will get lost among the other discussions. Jacquie, perhaps you can make a new image with the title of the discussion in the image and then Karen or Lynn can put that image in the text box and link the image to the announcement... Any takers?
