Hi everyone, Brianna has passed her evaluation for Pet Assisted Therapy and we begin our training in November to pass CGC first. I am a bit nervous though, our household has very active (little) girls and the requirements are strict....my girls love helping with training, but also love to play, so my struggle is training all five to be on the same page. They just loved Brianna at the facility and called to say they are really looking forward to her being in the program. Wish us Luck!!

At our Juvenile Detention Center therapy visit today...one young man made it clear he wasn't into dogs. "I don't need a dog for protection...I've got a gun!" Eeeek what do you say to THAT?

Hello Adina! What a great thing you are doing here!
Harlee has been a Therapy Dog for two years. Were getting ready as I fore mentioned with a troubled readers program here in R.C. He is going to have a little buddy the 29th of September. His life will be changed forever:-)Chloe is a female Goldendoodle 8 weeks old. Bev & Harlee

Mickey just got his CGC and turns one next month. I have been checking out places to see exactly what else I need to do to train him for a therapy dog.

Just wanted to share that Casey and I passed the Delta Society certification eval last weekend! We were evaluated in an assisted living location and what better place to discover if we could really handle it! The residents were all over Casey during most of the test. ;-) Can't wait to get him started...next goal- get him an agent.

Bright and Beautiful is another great place to go with your dog if you are considering therapy work. They also have the insurance for any liability.

Bill...the requirements depend on the facility you want to visit. Some facilities REQUIRE that you are registered with a therapy dog organization. There are three main organizations: Delta Society (with branches all over), Therapy Dogs INternational, and Therapy Dogs INCorporated. The benefit of being part of an organization is liability insurance AND the training is often helpful to give you a bit of awareness of some important therapy issues. Since Cody has his CGC and sounds like he's pretty well trained and well behaved it should be easy to pass the tests for the organizations listed above =)

Cody (look left) is a 4 y.o. male who has been through advanced training and has his Canine Good Citizen certificate. He has a natural affinity for people with Downes Syndrome, and for kids (as if other doodles don't!). It has always been my intention to volunteer for therapy work, but for three years my work schedule has been so heavy as to preclude this. Maybe this year. My youngest daughter is a Physical Therapist; she thinks I should offer to let Cody work with pediatric patients. Do you know if there are any particular requirements for that? For "emotional therapy" in Texas, it seems pretty much all you need is to be up to date on shots. Even the CGC is not required. (Yes, I do know there are organizations that certify Therapy dogs, but so far all the events the last couple of years have been at 8 am, at least 100 miles away.)

Cindy! Getting his photo in the yearbook...what a great idea! You'll have to share a photo of his picture when you get him in there...a proud doodle moment!
