Sadie just passed her Therapy Dog Test yesterday! The test was administered by Bright and Beautiful. I am a very proud momma and can't wait to begin our new adventure as a team. I am already a volunteer with Compassionate Care Hospice and we will probably begin supervised visits through them in the nursing home. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for us?
This is so amazing that so many of our doodles and their "people" are doing such great work! So proud to be part of this group!
Wow! Congratulations to all the new therapy dogs and their special humans! I just love that so many of our doodles are out there sharing their hearts and making a difference!
Thank you Cathy.
Think the one thing I would have exposed her to more children. I don't have any and aren't around them at all. She is a little shy but will warm up treats given from the child to her. In the test the most important thing to do is put the dog first, interaction with them and their well being first the rest will fall into place. I have had 4 therapy dogs. If one can do the Canine Good Citizenship test you are good. Do believe that is a requirement.. Make sure they are not noise sensitive. Thank you.

Stephanie, would you start a discussion on this because I would love to follow this because this is my plan for Cally as well. I do not want it to get lost.
I would love to ultimately have Ragley and I become a therapy team (not sure through which organization yet). She is about 4.5 months old right now so I know she is still far too young to be tested and registered, but I want to make sure I am doing the correct things now in order to aid our future path. We are in obedience classes and I plan to continue these and I try to take her as many places as possible to meet as many people as she can, but is there anything else we should be doing? Is there anything you wish you would have done with your puppies to help them prepare? Thanks!
Just like to say Hi, and boast a little about Peaches who has been a therapy dog at a hospital for 8 years. She will be 9 this April and still going strong. We are with Pet Partners in which she graduated "complex" with every testing. She looks forward to meeting everyone there. She hasn't met a human she doesn't like. We did a assisted living home for a while and now are going to Adult Care associated with the hospital. Thank you.
One of the colleges is University of Pittsburgh, which I graduated from. And they do "Therapy Dog Tuesday". I think I am going to join them on Tuesdays since I am familiar with the environment... And, yeah, BG and Gavin.... Pint can get excited about the other dogs, too... He would think its time to play with them!!
Thank you so much everyone.... It was a long day... I still cant believe that he passed the test.....
