We are at the beach almost every day in Fla. and Murphy loves rolling in the sand just as he gets out of the ocean, so there is sand on every inch of this doodle!!! I use the beach shower to get some off, walk back home and more comes off as he dries. Then we use one of the little plastic baby pools and have him lay down in it and get the rest of the sand off that way. Works great. Always surprised at how much sand his short furry coat can hide. But the pool is easy and even a spray with the garden hose would work. Just pay close attention to the underside. Esp. armpits.

Yep....that is what I thought...I want to take the boys to the beach but I am scared of the mess....sooooo, very short haircuts right before the trip might help.

Very cool, Amanda.....now do tell....I am dying to know.....how difficult is it to de-sand a doodle?

These are 2 pictures of Samantha out to dinner in MB. I broke all my puppy rules with Samantha. When we are out to eat we do feed her from the table. She knows if she sits and even looks at us, she gets nothing. If she lays quietly she does. At home, she knows the rules and sits in the living room while we eat in the kitchen.

I have a feeling that Jack's original owner travelled around with him in the car a lot, and that he got used to 'going' on leash. Even though we have a fenced yard, he still rarely will go poop in the yard, preferring to do it on his walks twice a day. When it's damp out, he won't even go out to pee in the yard; i have to take him out to the parkway on a leash. I would rather he was more like Ned, lol. I guess I should start travelling, Jackdoodle would probably love it.

We are doing that now - as we speak we are camping at a place with a dog run so I take him walking on the leash first AND I take him where my other dogs have peed! So far, no luck. He is such a good housebroken little boy. I think you have the right idea though with potty walks at home. I didn't think of that.

Start now, and take him where you know other dogs have done their business. Maybe a couple of regular very short "potty walks" a day, now that the weather is nice.

Hi guys, We take our dogs with us in our RV. The only concern I have with that is if/when they bark when we leave them. Ned seems to bark and growl at whatever startles him so I am watching to see what happens this summer. I will get him a collar - don't know whether it might shock or spray if we can't train him to be quieter. I was hoping to get one of those high frequency things that were triggered by barking, but members here have found that they don't work very well.
My other concern is that I am going to have to reteach Ned to go to the bathroom while on the leash. In his little life most of the places we've been to had a dog run. But plans for this summer are different so...... any suggestions from anyone would be appreciated.

Linda,
I would start now with himn sitting in the back to get used to it. A little at a time. We did the drive in 3 days - and stopped every couple of hours. I wanted to just stretch my legs - at my age you have to be careful. LOL (but not really). When I get home to my newtbook I will post you a pix of how my little Princess traveled to Florida. You will be hysterical!

We have rented a condo & the owner knows we have a dog. They allow dogs in outdoor seating? They won't even do that here anymore.
