Serious training begins for Wrangler

Wrangler completed basic puppy class a couple of months go. He’s a very big puppy (55 pounds at 6 months) and it’s time to get serious about training. Nobody like jumping dogs, etc. — especially super-sized jumping dogs. I hired a private trainer who will work with us for a couple of months. Anxious to get started. My eventual goal is CGC certification but many of you re doing some interesting things so who knows where Wrangler’s training will eventually go!See More

Training - Experiences, Challenges, and Mindsets

This group provides a "safe place" for members to share their experiences with training, celebrate "big and little successes" and gain insights as we encounter challenges, to support one another, and to explore how our mindset affects our training.

Profile Information

About Me:
Hi! My name is Diane. I am a lifelong dog lover. My husband and I decided to buy a Labradoodle after extensive research on the breed. We adopted our boy in January 2006. His name is Dakota and he was born on November 6, 2005. My husband and I adore Dakota--he is sweet, smart and a joy to be around!! We have a mountain lake vacation home in the high desert Sierras--it's Dakota's "second" home and a place that he truly loves. My favorite hobby is--especially taking pictures of Dakota!
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
I have an F1 Labradoodle named Dakota, He is 4 and full of life, love and happiness!
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
Shedding was a main consideration. And after all that, Dakota does shed! We love him to pieces so we forgive him!!!
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
I love to take Dakota to the lake for off-leash romps. He always keeps me in eyesight and "kind of" comes on call! I also love to take him to dog events like Splash Dog. He is a natural athlete and enjoys any activity involving a tennis ball!
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Yes!
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
I do and he gets an annual summer clip from a groomer; usually PetSmart.
Favorite Doodle Products?
Tennis balls and a tennis ball launcher! The "launcher" is actually a softball/baseball pitching machine. It has variable sppeeds and can be set to go up to 45mph!!! Dakota LOVES his launcher!!!!!

This is one of my favorite rules: Breaking the rules!

Posted on April 22, 2010 at 9:09am 3 Comments

Rules of photo composition: rule of thirds, framing, simplicity, leading lines, empty space and shapes. Don’t be afraid to break these rules — always following the “rules” will result in uniform, and sometimes mundane photos…

Lessons Learned

Posted on February 24, 2010 at 4:31pm 18 Comments

This is one of my favorite photos of Dakota. And now ONLY because we are here to learn and improve photography, I must share the comments of the photographer that critiqued this photo because it was a lesson learned for me that I would like you to learn from me rather than through your own experiences. I got a thumbs up in composition. I was told that this was a good photo and if only I had of focused my camera on the dog, it could have been…

Photography Lesson: Composition

Posted on February 23, 2010 at 9:00am 7 Comments

Besides being technically correct, being well composed spells the difference between an ordinary photo and one with an impact. It is very important to know and understand the common principles of a good composition. We used the word "principles" rather than "rules" because the latter strongly suggests that a…

Mixed reviews on the ball. Love it-hate it. I did write the company and received a response. Just get it :) My complaint is that it doesn't last very long. The stitching in ours came apart. Maybe a fluke. Another Doodle got his teeth stuck in the ball, and we did once too...but I think, all and all, if it didn't cost so much, we would have gotten another one by now.

Dakota will love the ball, they do love that orange color, it takes great photographs, and the dogs have fun!   So, I say, go for it.  It is stimulating and a challenge for them to carry. Which, might be a good thing for a bored doodle for a while

Diane, I broke our Olympus 12-60 lens.  I feel terrible about it.  The lens hood was cross threaded being plastic I cranked on it assuming it would always break before a lens but I was wrong. The front section of the lens broke off. Ouch that was not a cheap lens!  Back to using the kit lens. Mike

Diane, I love what you did with Lucy's picture and the way you lightened it.  Is that something you can tell me or show me how to do, or if I send you the original, can you do it for me?  Let me know, and again, thank you for doing that.
